John the driver?
It’s quite common really im surprised at the outrage on here - someone says go and get John and you say John the packer? No John the driver

Funny thing is I can’t possibly have done these stories justice in here because I’ve been telling them for over a decade and this is the only place I’ve ever had this sort of reaction! I’ve been told on here that I’m the boss nobody wants to work for and several times over that I was probably the reason they all called in sick !!!

Sicknote Shaun was a nightmare to work with - bone idle and lazy when he was actually there and constantly calling in sick when we were busy or he was down to work a shift he didn’t want to. He was genuinely caught out in the yard on his mobile getting his missis to ring the landline and tell me she had an emergency and needed him to come home😆 when he rang in sick he sounded like a year5 trying to get out of going to school in the morning

Anyway, my original point was a bit lost in all of this back and forth .. I was forwarding a lot of the messages to Pompey Stevo yesterday and he c as me into work absolutely raving about Shaun and what a nightmare he was … and neither of us has worked for him for 10 years 😆😆😆😆

I said there’s people on NSC blaming me for him going sick to which he ranted THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH HIM- HE WASNT SICK

Honestly I’ve had some disagreements on here before over football and politics but it wasn’t until I called out people for throwing sickies that the haters came out in force 😆😆😆

Quite interesting that you chose to respond to a joke but not a critique of short sighted and inflexible management processes. Did the various Johns, smokers et al ever get a holiday? What did you do when they did?

Out of interest, are you supposed to be working now?

I am an aging male but I also like the people you mentioned. Wes Streeting another one that comes across well.
Whichever political party they belong to I much prefer politicians to say this is what we need to do and why.
Over the last few years there were far too many who when questioned, would answer with something totally unconnected with the question. Boris Johnson probably has a degree in this!
Me too on the ageing male front, and agree with all of that.

Yes very very quiet this time of year, I do about 100 days on the bounce through the summer but my trade is so seasonal that I do one of the shops myself in the winter and if it’s bad weather I leave them shut. I was in last night with Stevo but only for a few hours - I did about 6 till 11 then went back in at 6am this morning.. he was just finishing up and then I opened the shop about 8.30 but it’s very quiet

Unlike, for instance, SKS and RR, he's a good communicator. Was also impressed with Matthew Pennycock yesterday when announcing the homebuilding programme. Streeting is good and I also like Jess Phillips and Angela Rayner (both of whom will provoke ire in the ageing male demographic on here), but they haven't got too many great storytellers.
Thought Matthew Pennycock made his points very well and was the most impressive Government Minister I have seen on the tv . Starmer and Reeves could do with some private tuition from him, they really are poor communicators.
He will need all his skills when he does battle with the anti house building brigade.

I’ve never worked anywhere where there was holiday cover or sick cover in over 40 years in the trade. When someone doesn’t turn up for a night shift at 6pm with no notice I’m not sure what any firm can do about that other than ring someone who’s been awake all day and ask them to come in. Everyone gets their 5.6 weeks holiday and the firms are all dependant on people working overtime

Ironically there will be a shortage of train services this Christmas because similarly to my trade the culture among train drivers is that they work rest days …. They’ve all had 3 years back pay of their pay rise and apparently are not keen to work overtime at Christmas so - no trains

West is BEST
It was an extremely difficult environment for some because
1 you were expected to turn up for work
2 you were expected to work when you were there
You say that in certain areas of the home counties and they’ll arrest you and throw you in jail. Fact.

What surprises me, given their names, is how these people (like BS John and Sicknote Shaun) ever got taken on in the first place! Surely the employer made a schoolboy error there - it's asking for trouble, shirley.
When I was a manager at the National Blood Transfusion Service an applicant called Dracula Dave applied for a job but I thought it best to not employ him.

The problem is that one size doesn’t fit all. I did find, in the public sector, if an employee had underlying health conditions such as severe asthma, SJogrens Syndrome, Hashimoto’s disease, then allowances were made. Colleagues aren’t always aware of their fellow worker’s health, rightly so, because it’s confidential.

I know of several incidents of bullying by managers where a union would’ve got involved.
The public sector tend to make allowances and take care of staff with health conditions. Private Sector tend to get rid of them where possible. Hence there being more sick days in the pubic sector.

Yes, I know it's the Torygraph...

Sir Keir Starmer is more unpopular after five months in Downing Street than any other prime minister since the late 1970s

Because Starmer and his Government are taking the tough decisions needed to unravel 14 years of Tory self-interested incompetence.

The people with whom he is so unpopular are too stupid to understand what is going on. They would be much happier with Johnson back in No.10 or, God forbid, the latest populist pygmy they've stuck the blue rosette on.

I remember being told similar about why people didn’t want to vote for Corbyn. Not a great way to win hearts and minds, is it? You disagree with us? Well you’re an idiot. It’s base politics.

Not listening to the electorate never ends well, for any party, and it’s a bit concerning that some Labour supporters are basically saying “you might think you’re unhappy about these decisions, but really it’s because you’re too stupid to understand them”. Hardly a glowing endorsement of their performance and communication so far!

Sometimes people are cross because the decisions being made directly cause them harm - such as pensioners in need losing winter fuel allowance.
