Not convinced any of them were relegation threatened clubs, maybe Villa and the Burnley game was a complete anomaly from memory. But as you like. We could have lost to Saints, Leicester and Wolves were unforgivable and Palace blew us away, so those results above did not result from being f***ing clueless in defence…imo. The last four or so games HAVE been due to being absolutely clueless in defence, not comparable to the ones you list.
2 of the 3 relegated clubs were in that run. Burnley went down as did Norwich. I'm not sure how much more convincing you can get from that.

So yeah, there were relegation threatened clubs in that run that beat us and that we failed to beat at home.

Undoubtedly fabulous in first season and half but towards the end he pretty much signed his own P45 with his constant moaning in public and total lack of a plan B once pretty much all the other teams had worked us out
Injuries and failure to strengthen the squad had a lot to do with it.

We did not lose to Norwich or concede shit goals against them and as I said the Burnley game was just one of those games. We are currently on a run of 4 “of those games”

So, no, I am nowhere near convinced.

We went 7 games without a win, 5 of which were home games and 6 of which were losses. Scored 1, conceded 13. If it needs explaining, the very basics of football is that to win games and succeed as a football manager your team need to score goals and not concede them.

I didn't say we were clueless under Potter. Just as we're not clueless under FH. I'm merely stating that pretending that Potter was a gilded saint and Hurzeler should be dumped for him ignores objectively looking at Potter because you liked him and are happy to make excuses for us not scoring a single goal at home between 18 January 2022 and 25 April 2022.
Thanks for letting me know how football works, enlightening stuff!

Now have a look at the list of opponents and at that point in time tell me how many we were expected to win? Couple of bad results in there as expected for a team of our stature, but overall not a disaster considering the fixture difficulty.

By the way I haven't said anywhere I want to dump FH for GP, I'm actually happy with FH.

Just fed up of the mindless and unnecessary criticism of GP who overall did an excellent job and we wouldn't be anywhere near our level today without him.

Rough periods of form are part of the game, especially for a club like us, not sure who some people think we are.

Do you think City fans will be posting a similar screenshot in a couple of years? Do Liverpool fans bang on about that period Klopp lost 6 home games in a row?

FH is having a bad run right now but let's hope we can recover and when we look back his overall contribution has a similar trajectory as GP did during his time here.

If that is the case I think we will all be happy.

We didn't lose to Leicester or Southampton though? We should've beaten the shit out of that Norwich team, they are one of the worst teams to ever grace the league.

And Fulham are not relegation threatened, they're above us in the table.

The ice is melting.

After a rebound fling and some Italian passion, then trying your luck with a youngen who didn't know what they were doing, you start to reminisce about the good times of the one who ditched you for the bigger better deal and now finds themself single and on the market again!
If you're talking passion, then why don't get Jimmy Melia back.....
Simples!

Must've had your eyes closed then.
Yeah that was easily our worst run of games under Potter. Not only the results but we also didn't play very well.

This can and will happen to every non-top team (and even those sometimes fall into deep dark holes) at some point or another, we had similarly poor results and football last spring and we're seeing something similar right now.

Thats just the way it is. Teams have bad form sometimes. Getting out on the other side looking a little bit more grown and a little stronger than before is they key thing. Not "never having bad form" because that's not realistic.

Well, I am also happy with FH - glad we can agree. The thread though, and the post you replied to was in reference to the OP wanting Potter to come back to replace FH...

Look, Potter did a good job at Brighton but I genuinely don't understand how anyone can objectively look back and think it was excellent. 20% of his wins came in the 14 game run at the end of his time and without that he only had a 27% win rate in his 121 games at the Albion. To put that into the context of the Premier League, Gary O'Neil has just been sacked by Wolves with a 31% win rate and under pressure Julen Lopetegui has a 35% win rate at West Ham.

Now, despite you believing that someone pointing out Potter's flaws in a thread about bringing him back as manager as "mindless criticism", he did do an excellent job of transitioning the style and taking us from surviving to competing in the Premier League. It wasn't an easy job but he was unbelievably well supported by the excellent structure that Tony Bloom has built at the club. At the same time, he delivered a 9th place finish in an incredibly tight mid-table which hinged on us beating a West Ham team already on the beach at home - if we'd lost that, we'd have finished below Palace. It wasn't excellent, it was good and where we should've been after affording him a long stable time to implement his ideas and build his team.

For me, if it wasn't Potter, it probably would've been someone else. The club have shown that they're brilliant at recruitment and whilst he did a good job, it's insane to think, in hindsight, that he was the key to all our current success.

100% and why it's ridiculous to look at our current 4 game run and pretend that Potter was immune to spells of bad form (he was almost defined by long runs of both good and bad form at Brighton). The OP and some others pretending that GP was flawless at Brighton astounds me.

He was good and served a purpose for the club (as we did for him) but he's not a footballing messiah FFS.

We had a bit of fun yesterday but let’s be real TB isn’t the finger on the sack trigger type of owner.
Potter isn’t returning and Fab isn’t getting the bot.

You're now reading things that just haven't been written.

No one has said he was immune to spells of bad form, flawless or a messiah?

He took a relegation threatened team playing awful, negative football to a team flying high in the league, playing amazing football in three years.

With one of the lowest transfer/wage budgets.

That's pretty f***ing impressive.

I think the problem might be "expecting to win". Football doesn't work like that, and is all the better for it.

As I said, good job, but I think you're squeezing timelines a bit here. He was Brighton manager for 135 games and didn't transform the team to achieve 15 more points than the season before he took over in that same season. It was incremental and included lots of spells that would've ended with him losing his job at most clubs in our position and lots of runs that eventually resulted in him getting the Chelsea job.

I'm not sure how a highest position of 9th can be classed as flying high in the league though. I would say that's solidifying your position in mid-table, fulfilling the brief he was set. And in that 14 game run where it all looked brilliant, he had quite the squad of talent available to him. A midfield 3 of Bissouma, Caicedo and Mac Allister is a top 4 midfield without a doubt, even then.

We consistently have one of the lowest wage budgets as well. We are consistently in the bottom ten of wages paid and more likely in the bottom five of the Premier League. But we also know that we overperform that by buying exciting young players and giving them a platform to perform. Potter had a lot of talent afforded to him and he did a good job with it. He moved us forward as a club, and others have taken that progress and moved it miles forward. It's positive and I'll happily tell anyone and everyone that he was a good manager for Brighton at the time, but in hindsight, his time here really wasn't that f***ing impressive.

People very quickly forgot GPs starting point after the 3-0 against Tottenham. Pretty much over night it went from "I hope we can stay up despite the pundits all thinking we'll go down" to "we should be mid table or the manager is shite".

4th when he left was flying high, why are you choosing to ignore that? without that start to the season Europe doesn't happen.

I'm just looking at the overall position when he joined and when he left, a huge difference.

Much easier to maintain and improve momentum like RDZ did when you inherit a great squad.

Sounds like you're the sort of person who might buy Bitcoin at 50k, it then drops to 20k for a year but you keep hold of it and eventually sell for a tidy profit 2 years later at 100k.

Instead of being very happy with your gains you can't help but focus on the period where you were at a loss.

TL;DR: Zoom out.

Spoken like a true halfwit cryptobro :lolol:

But seeing as how you like to speak in crypto terms...

When the Albion lost Potter, nothing of value was lost (apart from maybe some of the backroom staff)
