[Albion] What do you think our style of football is?

At the start of the season, we seemed to be more direct than under RDZ, bypassing the midfield with incisive passes to the forwards (less fannying about, simpler style) and also seemed to whip balls quickly into the box more often.

But seems to have fallen away and only see glimpses of this now.

Start of the second half today attempted to more direct, quicker passing but faltered and really frustrated at the lack of attempts to get it into the bloody box.

Edit: Have also seen glimpses over the weeks of our style of play under RDZ and Potter, but overall style and consistency just not there.

Well, the idea seems to be quick attacking transitions but it kind of doesn't work when all of our attacking players want to dribble three opponents every time they have the ball. Welbeck aside, all our attacking players want the ball as much as possible and don't move enough when a team mate has it.
This seems to be our formation (though can change some players around) in most games:

Last season we were extremely vulnerable due to full backs playing like wingers without adequate cover behind. This season we have improved that part slightly, but instead moved away from a two pivote system to a one pivote system, making us extremely vulnerable to central runs.

Its... exciting. I guess. Right now I would be more excited watching us get eleven men behind the ball in a defensive shape, covering spaces and holes until we win the ball back. Just for ONE MINUTE to see if we're still able to regroup and hold a shape after years of being all over the place.

Hughton-ball: Dig deep, make ourselves hard to beat

Potter-ball: Control possession, work openings

De Zerbi-ball: Draw them onto you, hit them at pace

Hurzeler-ball: …maybe Danny Welbeck might dig us out of a hole?

We have a style?

The last few matches have felt like a style buffet.

That's the starter. To be followed by peach and artechoke-stuffed turtle, with a whiskey and marmalade reduction.

(I wrote 'sauce' but Mrs T pointed out that a reduction would have greater embonpoint)

To answer …. arrogantly thinking we can win any end to end shootout. Taking insane risks to try to achieve that. Little defence, very inviting to any opposition. Even ALWAYS LOSE AWAY Southampton FFS.

Opposition coaches have now had a good opportunity to note the glaring weaknesses. Silva, Glasner, Russell Martin exploited them to a tee, FH did fck all about it in real time.

It might work against higher risk managers such as Slot and Angie, also determined to play a high line, but the PL has an array of others who don’t play ball.

The style is built around the data model. Tony Bloom has obviously worked out a style that provides the most probability of maximising the chance of getting 1 or 3 points without losing a lot of games. Under Potter we drew a lot of games. The data also selects managers and players who fit the “system”, hence why in the last 5 years the play has always been similar across 3 managers. The problem is always the same, an inability to kill off dogged teams who sit deep and play on the counter. Maybe Bloom needs to look at slightly different styles as we seem to be a 1 trick pony team.

In my computer
Todays styles were bought to you by "hoof and hope" with a dash of "shoddy passing then run your arse off to get the ball back you shouldn't have lost" with a few moments of "holy mother of god what happened there"....

Fabian seemed to be mostly doing one arm movement today. Continually waving his arms apart, which seemed to suggest everyone was not wide enough across the pitch, not sure what he was trying to prevent, maybe "bees to the honey pot"....
