@Bakero is the undoubted GOAT on here, but I would say choose a solid starter word and stick with it.

A few people on here seem to have quite similar starting words which you can probably work out if you match the patterns to the word of the day.
Mine is STARE for what it's worth, but rarely does me much good.

There is also an online list of previous answers which some people think is handy/essential and others believe is cheating. However, it will definitely eliminate a lot of choices.

What is cheating is using a word solver or coming on to this thread before completing the puzzle as despite a "no spoilers" rule, the patterns shown will give too much help.

If you are playing in easy mode, you can probably guarantee not to fail by ignoring greens and yellows on the first go and using a complete set of letters you haven't yet used for the next go or two.

E.g first go STEAM and second go ROUND will probably give enough to get you going to get the answer in 4 or 5.
No-one does that on here, as everyone tries to get a 2 or a 3!

Oh and remember that although it will accept plurals in your guesses, plurals ending in S will never be a solution. Same for past tense words ending -ed,

Oh, and if you devise your own system or set of rules, don't forget to ignore them so that you can come on here and say, "if I had followed my rules, I would have got a 3 instead of the 5 I ended up with ".
😜😜

If you decide to keep your stats, there is League Table of the average scores which I publish occasionally.

There is also Premier League Competition based upon scores on days when Brighton play, but you are a little late for this season.

We also have Cup Competitions at different points in the year, usually during international breaks or the off-season.

Good luck, happy wordling!

Great stuff.

Didn't know that about the past tense ending in -ed.

I have been sucked into this game and becoming an addict. Any tips please so that I can at least try and compete :)
My biggest tip is to stop playing!! The effort I went to to get a mobile signal in a field (camping) so I wouldn't lose my streak was ridiculous. Luckily my suggestion of having a long walk to a pub paid off! :lolol:
I start with the same starter word, even though it came up & I got in in one but when I tried changing it, it confused me. I used to do what @SeagullsoverLondon said & used 'sound' for go 2 until I started playing competitively with my FIL. I don't use previous word lists as I consider it to be cheating (but each to their own on that & it gives me a good excuse to be crap).
It uses the American English dictionary and they can't spell. So there are sometimes words like 'Color'. Very unlikely to come across 'Penis' as I remember a mention of naughty words being removed. Most of it is luck! Secret vowel of 'Y'.

Guess the word!

Seriously, if you want to improve the odds a bit, find a list of previous words. So far no word has been used twice.
I never ever look at what others have posted before playing because I consider that to be cheating.
