Hello everyone. Gutted about the result today, but we’ll bounce back stronger as always.

I want to share something that I’ve been thinking about for a long time, and it’s now live as a petition.
Recently, I shared the idea with the City Council, and they suggested starting a petition to gauge public interest.

Here’s the petition link if you’d like to sign

My idea is to simplify the city’s name from Brighton & Hove to just Brighton. Importantly, this wouldn’t erase Hove’s identity—it would still be recognized as a distinct and proud part of Brighton, much like areas like Chelsea are in London. This change is about creating a unified and stronger identity for the city as a whole.

The petition needs 1,250 signatures to move forward, so every voice counts.

As a lifelong Brighton fan, season ticket holder, and someone who deeply cares about our city, I’ve also emailed Paul Barber to make sure the club would be okay with this idea. If the club were against it, I wouldn’t go any further with it.

Right now, I’m just trying to gauge interest and see what the wider community thinks. Personally, I believe the City of Brighton sounds more streamlined and powerful while still preserving Hove’s unique identity as part of something bigger.

Once again, here’s the link to the petition if you’d like to share your views.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, whether you agree or not.
I have just re read your OP, you emailed Barber? Really, you sir are a weapons grade fuctard

Sorry, one more observation. Chelsea is indeed in London, it's also in the Royal Borough of Kensington AND Chelsea. Maybe Chelsea will be happy if it's just renamed 'Royal Borough of Kensington'?
Derby County's Frank Lampard's Chelsea's Stamford Bridge ground is in Fulham...

Given there's already a Fulham FC, perhaps Chelsea could be renamed to Fulham 2 FC to avoid confusion?

Seems nobody is too keen on changing the name to simply 'Brighton' so how about changing it around so it's Hove & Brighton? And then change it around again after a year? You know, rotate the nomenclature out of it.

Hove didn't ask to be annexed, asset-stripped and trashed by the socialist shit-hole next door nor ask to be invaded by right-on, white-flight hipsters from London.
We didn't ask for our streets to stink of weed from the moronic students studying Mickey Mouse at their tinpot university either.
If there was ever a need for a Hove Independence Party then this is it!
(It's a no from me by the way).

Hove is/was a Town, Patcham is a suburb and i agree Portslade was swallowed up into Hove, let’s not make that mistake again eh
Does Brighton own Shoreham too? Since they have our airport and port, they should be swallowed up and downgraded too. Don’t want Lancing though, Worthing can have them.

I agree about shortening the name of the City. I think the "City of Hove" is more compact and would fit the bill.

42 twats have signed so far
By definition, they would not have been of sound mind, with the possible exception of M. Mouse who signed 16 times out of the 42, so actually those signatures can’t be counted anyway.

It’s a good idea but I think the ‘&’ deserves to be front and centre on a rotational basis if we are changing it around as suggested.

I always liked the old name of Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic too.
Boscombe also feels like a town in its own right with a large hightstreet and 20 thousand odd residents

Gotta love the special people, bless 'em
I've just clicked on the link and looked at the site. I'd no idea you could do this but there are quite a few petitions, I think the most popular one has 346 signatures. One, (about parking permits in Whitehawk), has zero! Our guy's one is currently up to 43, which is by no means the worst score. It closes on 3rd June next year, so there's time yet. He could get 'Most Popular' even if he doesn't get the required number.

I'm thinking of starting one about renaming Old Steine Gardens to 'Brighton Square'. Every city should have a square, don't you agree?

Which is why we sing "One team in Fulham". C*****a only exist because the Fulham board refused to move Fulham FC to the dogtrack.

Okay, I moved up north a while back now. But I never think of Brighton as a city anyway. And for me Brighton and Hove have always been separate places - except for the football. So, it doesn't matter what it's called!

I'm going to email the CEO of them up the road and Croydon Council with a petition to get the name changed to 'Crystal Meth'.

I'd be interested in your thoughts.
