Things are going equally well in the comments on the Brighton and Hove News article:

Sometimes you think, Ive seen or heard the most stupid suggestion/idea/proposition ever- and then someone comes up with something that just raises the bar to another level

Hove does, and always will have a separate identity to Brighton. The look and feel of Hove is distinctly different. You don't need road signs to know when you have left Brighton and entered Hove- something just changes. Hove isnt better than Brighton, Brighton isnt better than Hove- They compliment each other and that works perfectly fine

This idea is akin to saying, lets change the name of the entire UK to England. Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland will still be OK because they will be distinct counties , like Yorkshire, Or Sussex is, so its fine. I'm pretty sure how that suggestion would go down

And to even consider changing from "Brighton and Hove Albion FC" to Brighton City FC, or Brighton FC when the club played for most of its existence in HOVE is almost worth a ban in itself- from NSC and the Club!!!

Very true, but Hove is better than Brighton I'm afraid.

Hello everyone. Gutted about the result today, but we’ll bounce back stronger as always.

I want to share something that I’ve been thinking about for a long time, and it’s now live as a petition.
Recently, I shared the idea with the City Council, and they suggested starting a petition to gauge public interest.

Here’s the petition link if you’d like to sign

My idea is to simplify the city’s name from Brighton & Hove to just Brighton. Importantly, this wouldn’t erase Hove’s identity—it would still be recognized as a distinct and proud part of Brighton, much like areas like Chelsea are in London. This change is about creating a unified and stronger identity for the city as a whole.

The petition needs 1,250 signatures to move forward, so every voice counts.

As a lifelong Brighton fan, season ticket holder, and someone who deeply cares about our city, I’ve also emailed Paul Barber to make sure the club would be okay with this idea. If the club were against it, I wouldn’t go any further with it.

Right now, I’m just trying to gauge interest and see what the wider community thinks. Personally, I believe the City of Brighton sounds more streamlined and powerful while still preserving Hove’s unique identity as part of something bigger.

Once again, here’s the link to the petition if you’d like to share your views.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, whether you agree or not.

f*** off you ****.

Here and There
Can't help thinking the council were being sarcastic when they told him to set up a petition to see what the general feeling was about this change. Bet they pissed themselves laughing when they realised he'd actually done it.

Seems a bit of a strange one.

'Brighton and Hove' feels like an accepted amalgamation that predates the city status. It's perhaps a little unusual but it works.

If you live in Hove you'd tell people you lived in Hove rather than Brighton but it's no different to someone saying their from Preston park rather than Brighton is it?

It is much more of an issue where I live in Dorset where they've explored city status. Bournemouth, christchurch and Poole is one continuous conurbation refered to as BCP but no one seems to keen on 'the city of Bournemouth christchurch or Poole'

I always liked the old name of Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic too.

To be fair to the OP, I laughed so hard upon reading his post that my wife rushed up the stairs thinking I was having some kind of seizure.

According to the link he’s garnered 42 signatures so far. Hopefully they’ve left their names and addresses so they can be rounded up and deposited on the outskirts of Croydon.

I feel this may be your first and last post Gava. I believe you maybe from Croydon or studying psychology and conducting some weird experiment into human nature or worse, both of these things.

Sorry, one more observation. Chelsea is indeed in London, it's also in the Royal Borough of Kensington AND Chelsea. Maybe Chelsea will be happy if it's just renamed 'Royal Borough of Kensington'?

EDIT: Apparently it was just going to be called 'Kensington', but thousands of Chelsea residents protested! Yes they'd still have their identity, but it wouldn't be reflected in their borough name.
