Cancellation – in that sense – is a load of old bollocks. If you've ACTUALLY done something majorly bad, you don't work again because you deserve to not work again (Edwards, maybe Schofield, for example). Other people who either claim to be cancelled or are the victim of being 'cancelled' normally have enough of a fanbase to prevent them being cancelled (Brand, Tate and many others). Wallace will be fine and he will probably come back doing something or other down the line at some point (like numerous others – Richard Bacon, etc, etc)

And yes, they typically have a whole load of coverage on social media, sometimes legacy media and – in some cases – primetime TV! But yeah mate – poor you for (in most cases) being a bit of a dick. My heart bleeds for you.

Look at the incoming president of the USA. He's done enough to be 'cancelled' and he's about to get arguably the biggest gig in the world!
A journo made the point that’s he’s in entertainment, which is the business of being liked. If you do something which makes you unpopular then it stands to reason you run the risk of being hooked from a show. So it’s not being cancelled, more old school getting the boot for being a twat at work.

Yes, but I think your tangent undermines what is being talked about ,........

It just feeds those who think the world has gone woke because apparently was OK in the 70s to ask a women to lick your #### in the workplace.
The tangent started because I took issue with the hyperbolic media reaction to his behaviour, not his behaviour, which for the record I think if he is guilty he should be reprimanded. Pretty much all the comments on here treat this as a closed and shut case, he is guilty before going to trial "believe the victim" is the single most dangerous demand to come out of the dive into absurdity which "woke" has become. And this is why you are seeing pushback, not because people think those behaving criminally should get away with it. So as much as you don't like it I think discussing the reaction to these allegations and the trajectory we seem to be taking is very valid.

You went off on a tale about some idiot’s reaction to Harry Potter merch at work.

It has, at best, an extremely tenuous link to the thread topic.

You likened the victims of alleged sexual harassment to some drip complaining about Harry Potter.

I do see what you were saying and the link you were trying to make. And it’s not totally irrelevant but it’s a pretty ropey comparison.

The media are playing this too for clicks and sales, in fairness. Every time there is a drip drip of news like this, it smacks of managed release of information. Women have come forward and the editors sit on the information, then when it dies down in the current cycle, out comes the next one, rather than releasing all together. It’s more powerful “oh, not another one”.

On the other hand it can make it seem like a character assassination and actually garner sympathy for the the dickhead in question.

Oh. You’re one of those.

It’s not really a discussion when you’re simply throwing irrelevant bullshit into the thread and declaring it a sub-thread.

Nobody is discussing it with you. Hence it’s not a discussion. Some have tried, including me, and you just get rude.

Thanks but no thanks.

Wallace just needs to play the huw Edward’s mentally suffering card

Then the board will be fully behind him

So interesting a lot of opinion on here and how it differs so much to speaking to men and women in person

You are rightly judging the press and their handling of the complaints but then trying to decry the actual complaints as woke.
The definition of woke is alert to injustice.

How can injustice be a bad thing? Women have made complaints over 12 years and nobody has listened, or their complaints have just been dismissed.

This subject requires its own thread, but just a few examples of what I find excessive.
The Austistic girl who was recently dragged through the FA disciplinary process and banned for 6 matches because she dared to ask a bearded player If they were male. When she was told the person was trans she apologised.

Rodrigo Bentancur 7 match ban for making either a sarcastic comment at a journalist or a crass poor taste joke about a friend of his (take your pick which version you believe), as a comparison I couldn't find how long Jack Rules was banned for nearly ending O'Riley's career so I assume it was only 3 matches.

My own experience when I called up the ABC radio to speak out against the vile actions of the Israeli government and being accused of antisemitism, they hung up when I pointed out that I was anti-zionist not antisemitic which would be quite difficult as I am jewish.

My Stepson runs a large state NGO which is rife with political correctness, the one example I will give is a woman demanding a colleague stop bringing her lunch etc to work in a harry potter bag or face the sack, why? Because the author is a transphobe.
And these days, if you say you’re English, you get arrested and thrown in jail.

Additionally, the ghostwriter of his autobiography has revealed some rather crass details of his behaviour. He's a very naughty boy !

Bit disrespectful, she is the author of much children's books.
Fun fact The Entertainer Toy Shop Group, is owned by a born again Christian, who neither opens on a Sunday or sells anything Harry Potter as it’s the work of the Devil!

However in a twist, he’s also apparently taken the ‘Cohen shilling‘ and opened up concessions in every major Tesco store, still no Harry Potter but very much open on a Sunday! ( Unless he’s sold up obviously 😂)

If you disagree with so many opinons posted on this thread, why don't you reply to them and challenge them?

Your generalised suggestions and vague unspecified implied accusations come across as if you are uncertain of the substance.

Go on, be brave and challenge one of the posts you find so abhorrent.

Absolutely untrue. Please show me where I have even spoken about the complainants. As to the definition of woke it has gone from meaning being awake to white middle class privilege and being aware of the discrimination that persists for people of colour and those in lower economic circumstances (something I was very happy to identify as) to some grotesque movement that demands obedience to their worldview, a movement which has absolutely no tolerance for questioning of their values. As Tim Minchin so succinctly put it "we progressives have turned into c***s".
Yes women have made complaints and not been listened to, heck I am old enough to have watched the "fly on the wall" doco of Thames Valley Police which caused outrage when the episode of the women alleging rape was aired. However that does not mean we should throw out the idea of innocent until proven guilty and replace it with guilty until proven innocent IE Believe the Victims. I won't believe anyone until the evidence has been through court, which as flawed as it is is our best way to protect the innocent and punish the guilty.
