We were at the front of the queue as the Seaford train pulled in. The stewards realised there was still space and started letting more people onto the platform so we walked straight onto the train.
Although we had a 10 min wait at Lewes for a train to Polegate where we’d parked. Back in Bexhill by 11:30.
Absolute breeze this evening definitely helped by the stewards not ignoring a half empty train as has happened before.

I was thinking of trying this, to avoid the park and ride queue (a 30 minute bike ride versus an hour or so standing in the cold). Is it possible to park in Patcham, and any recommendations for where? The route that Google suggested took in Carden Avenue and Coldean - are there any horrific hills? I have an old folding bike that might be a bit heavy to pedal up some of those slopes, and I don't fancy doing the walk of shame...
You'll be able to park closer than that, anywhere in Hollingbury. Then does the ASDA car park have a time limit / sly parking enforcement company ... I haven't seen a sign?
The mid section of Carden Hill near M&S is deceptively steep, the top one third of Coldean Lane is steep, but you could always walk it on the pavement. I cycle the lot and I'm definitely not a skinny mountain goat. It would be easier but in a backpack I'm carrying two heavy u-locks and a heavy duty cable, bought specially, I don't want my £2k bike nicked.
I'll do it from now on. I get to see entire games and it takes about 25 minutes once I'm cycling from the Bridge to home near Withdean Stadium.

In the dark potholes are a hazard, a real danger. I've ordered a suitable front lamp, waiting for it to come from Europe, recommended by @Stat Brother

@Weststander Asda & all the other car parks on the industrial estate have a time limit, although I did notice the other day on a sign in the carpark that you can actually pay to park there now for longer. I don't know how it works (or costs) as I didn't bother to read it.
P.S. Dear Asda shoppers, if the car park on match day is now rammed with cars with cycle racks, it's not my fault!!!
Good lad. After Friday think I'll cycle in future. Done it a few times on my spare worthless boneshaker but think I'll use the Cannondale road bike from now on. What type of locks do you have? I'm thinking medium security.

Do you take your small backpack into the stadium?
The few times I've cycled to games, my bag with lock in etc was a bit bigger than A4. I didn't want to have to try and 'negotiate' with the stewards on entering the ground, so I put the cable I used through one of the handles and secured it to my bike. Not that it was really secure and someone could easily have cut it free - but then why would they do that. That also meant I had to leave my lights in the bag which isn't ideal.
If you want to park and cycle I’d recommend behind Moulsecoomb station on Crespin Way and drop down to Lewes Road and it’s flat from there .

Thanks, I'll check that out (mainly to see if it's free parking, cos I'm a cheapskate ). I need to get back up the A23 so thought somewhere near the Long Man pub might be good - there's a flatter route Google suggests that looks ok. Now I just need a train strike or stupid kick off time to try it out!

How easy is it to take bike pump and lights (the stuff that could get nicked) into the ground in a small bag. Don't really want to pay 7.50 to leave at the bag drop
You’re allowed an A4 sized bag. Drawstring bag or small backpack is fine
