Wasnt anything to do with the club not giving him time to develop. When he left he was vocal to the club about wanting first team football, which was something the club couldn’t promise him as at that stage he’d done nothing on his loans to prove he could cut it. It was then a case of either sending him out on more loans or selling him, and from what I remember it was the player that pushed for the sale so he could find a more permanent home with first team football. The club did him a favour by agreeing to this. Could have easily kept him in the youth/loans set up but made him unhappy in doing so. Nobody could have predicted at that point how well he’d then do at Coventry etc…A big lesson to all of us to give kids some time to develop.
