never been more confident of anything in my life. why are we so crap against bottom-of-the-table teams? it’s not even a ‘playing against a low block’ thing, we were awful in the second half. i just can’t comprehend how we can do this with such regularity, whilst being so excellent the rest of the time. i’m not disappointed, christ, we’re in the top four. i’m just more perplexed, than anything else, with the certainty of it all

Yes - they didn't really play in a low block. They played football and attacked where they could - should have been just the sort of team we enjoy playing against.

It’s a mentality issue. You can see from the decisions the players make on the pitch, there’s an arrogance that creeps in that top teams don’t have. It’s been like it for two/three years and it’s what’s holding us back.

At 1-0 I stick £20 on the draw. Won £150. Free money given how many times this has happened.

Agree we stop playing and start making stupid passes against these sides top sides don’t panic.

It’s true that many of us expected it. I was surprised by just how sloppy we were tonight though. Mitoma was decent, otherwise nobody really stood out and the best player on the pitch was Dibling, who was superb.

Put it down as a bad job, take it and move on. It’s about how we respond now.

True, but by then we were already letting them get some dangerous balls into the six yard area.

We just played poorly.

Lampty is not good enough
Weiffer is not an improvement even with fresh legs.

In fact, we just looked leggy. There was little movement and in the second half we gave them too much time on the ball.

Agree with both.
Getting Baleba will help and we certainly missed him second half.
Dunk made us look more organised in moving the ball forward.
We did also miss Veltman in terms of us being a sound defensive unit, especially in the second half.

They seemed to go a goal up and think “right, job done” and just started trying ridiculous flicks and lazy passes which got punished

I agree it's a mentality issue, but don't think it's arrogance. I think it's more not being able to handle the weight of expectation, which tonight must have been huge. We've a squad full of youngsters, which maybe is part of the problem. Not that I think our squad is a problem, I think they're f***ing brilliant. Just struggling to get to grips with the emotional side of the game maybe.

I think "leggy" is exactly how I'd describe us today which is odd. I wonder if there's a wee bit of sickness about in the squad or whether it's just more psychological and players finding it difficult to change the tempo once they equalised.

It's simply human nature to feel slightly over-confident and a little more relaxed when up against someone/team that are not as good as you. And by the time it's gone wrong, it's too late to change the mindset back to one of 100% mentality. Neither arrogance nor weight of expectation really. Just human.
