We were in Manhattan this April, Tommy took my fancy, but only I would’ve liked it. I love that music so much, my Dad had the vinyl. But a rubbish seat up in the gods was something like $400 last minute. Fck that for a game of soldiers.
Broadway prices are insane. Absolutely bonkers. Seat in the gods for $130 - no thanks!

Well it’s set within a pretty huge universe, yes. There are four Wicked books, plus two spin off book series comprising four books so far. Then the 14 books in The Wizard of Oz series. Plus the fact that the stage version has been by 70 million people worldwide, and grossed over £5.5bn in ticket sales.

I’d say it’s a good deal more “epic” in “scale” than The Godfather Trilogy, albeit dealing with completely different themes and for a different market.
f*** me.

"We're off to see the Wizard"

The end.

Fourteen books. FOURTEEN?

It makes Jordan's three autobiographies look like egregiously overzealous editing.

Oh I didn’t! I was more paraphrasing this;

(1min 20 to 1min 45)

What’s the Reddit thing about?

That's absolutely f***ing hilarious.

Tears rolling down my sweet, soft face as I laughed.

It is entirely unjust that the rather naff Gladiator 2 has a thread and Wicked hasn’t…

5* from me, superb movie with excellent performances but Ariana Grande steals the show. Biggest non-Disney musical box office opening ever.

8.2 IMDB, 90% Rotten Tomatoes. Loved by audiences and critics alike.

Far, far superior to the now very tired, technically past-it, neglected and consistently poorly cast West End production.
Daughter went to see it last weekend ..your comments concur with hers

I saw it on Sunday evening with my wife and youngest daughter. Was absolutely blown away by how good it was. I was captivated for the whole film so didn’t notice the length of it - even my bladder held out somehow!

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were vocally amazing - my daughter told me that they recorded the vocals live as they acted, rather than overdubbing them with studio recordings, I’m not sure if that’s true, but if it is, then the performances are even more amazing.

Nice touch to have cameos from Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth too.

Finally, for me, despite it being a film, shown on a screen in a cinema, there was something immersive about it that made it feel like a stage production. At the end, to me it really did feel like the intermission half way through a west end show. I almost expected the curtain to come down.

It really did. The wonder of Dolby Atmos?

Superb post. Did it remind you of Sleeping Beauty?

I think Erivo and Grande will both be in the running come Oscar time, their performances are just perfect. Grande was the one who surprised me the most, she embodies the role and plays up the humour perfectly.

Some films go in one ear and out the other, and I’ve forgotten them the next day. This one I keep ruminating on - the imagery and moments.

Sorely tempted to go back next week - it felt so epic on the big screen.

Wokeid more like.

Those cinema seats are built for an hour and a half max.
Really does depend on the cinema - the new(ish) Cineworld in Eastbourne is extremely comfortable with loads of leg room and a good rake. Access is an issue though, as you enter front to back so it’s quite a few stairs to get even half way back and not have to crane your neck.
