Betting syndicates stay away from England. There will never be a match fixing scandal of the same dimensions as in Bundesliga or in Italy.

Main reason is the cost obviously. Bribing people in the Premier League is naturally more expensive than bribing someone in the Bahrainian third division.
The clubs are also multi-billion businesses that would react very strongly to the slightest noice of match fixing. And they have the long arms that can put you in jail for life, like they did with hesgoal owners.

If I would guess, this guy who takes cocaine alone in his hotel room is quite likely to have substantial drug debt as is usually the case with lone-cokers regardless of how much they earn.
I would say however you don’t need to bribe anyone when you have leverage.

He can significantly impact a professional sporting contest that can also be bet upon. No one at this stage knows why it’s come out for sure, I said earlier in the post, I hope it’s a disgruntled person relationship issue rather than his usefulness running its course. This is potentially a significant problem for the PGMOL

Just added the underlined

Yup certainly a bunch of problems baked into it.

Main concern might be Klopp video. In the future it will be VERY difficult to find referees if the requirement is "never said a bad word about a club, manager or player on any social media or in any recorded private conversation, ever". I'm struggling to see how any current 20-year-old person is going to be able to meet those requirements.

As for refs "fixing games" in England... it may or may not be a problem. I don't think there is because people have been claiming it whenever their team lost for the 25 years I've been following football but there's VERY little evidence of it happening in the English top flight.

There’s at least some governance over here and as a result less likely that an entire team is in on an outcome.

We’ve had more of a spot bet issue over here where players get yellow cards unnecessarily/ kick the ball out from KO within seconds, that sort of thing, which may not totally constitute match fixing but any change of the natural outcome, however little can play its part.

We did have an issue with Flood light tampering (to get games suspended if it wasn’t going their way) but that was 25 years ago.

I did read something a few years back where c1,000 uk matches were under investigation based on unusual betting patterns, I’ll have a look

Exceptionally harsh. No one is making excuses for him but, and personally, I do feel sorry for him with the way this is now playing out. He hasn’t killed or hurt anyone and the only victim is himself.
If he wasn’t pissed and coked up and acted like the professional he’s meant to be he wouldn’t be in any hot water right now would he?
Are a few of them on the gear? It would make sense when they can’t get a simple offside line drawn correctly.

You’ve totally missed my point.

My lad now works with this guy it’s the only reason I knew about it what he went through to get the right result was horrific. He was getting it from both angles the syndicate and his team mates.
Assume you have at least the same opinion of this bloke as Coote then?

Or is it different because your lad works with him?

He’s done is time and held his hands up although Coote hasn’t been accused of match fixing though. It was a reply to ‘ never happens in England’

The more of this stuff I see the more I wonder if he has been targeted by dodgy folk like betting syndicates. It all seems to have come out in such a way that feels like he has refused to do something after being blackmailed. Maybe a warning to other refs etc. it all just seems too much for an ex friend to suddenly do.

Maybe i am miles wide of the mark. It just feels like maybe because he won’t be corrupt his life is being ruined.

Either way on a human level i feel for him. It must be grim to be him right now.
Maybe there might have been something in this then?

The pieces are coming together , it feels ever so much like blackmail either by the ‘friend’ for money not to post the vid which he could no longer afford, so gave betting tips instead and made them happen. Or, a betting syndicate as posted above. Either way, I do feel quite sorry for him now but think if this is the case he would do a lot better in football fans eyes just to front up and say this is what’s happened and for how long etc.

Did this mysterious, dastardly gang also force him to snort marching powder whilst away on UEFA duty? He's a wrong un. End of. It's admirable to look for the good in people, but not at the expense of the bleeding obvious.

I have seen the yellow some mention as being the one he tipped. It is one of the most blatant yellows you could see. Someone was clattered by the corner flag.

Whatever the truth is, it’s clear some people have it out for David Coote.
