TurningPoint UK were one of the instigators of this, which is an offshoot of Trump’s lot in the USA. Undermining democracy with nonsense.
It’s been rumbling since the election that Reform only got 5 seats but similar votes to the LibDems who got 72.
They have certainly reeled in all the nincompoop tiddlers on NSC, who are beside themselves with joy at this new expression of the 'will' of the people.

There could be a positive from this.

Labour can afford to shrug their shoulders and move on.
I do hope they don't reel out the deputy PM unless she has been briefed to within an inch of her life.
The correct response to a nonsense grilling on the radio is to mock the whole thing.

"They will get a chance to express their views at the ballot box at the appointed time.
Assuming they are all UK citizens with the right to do so.
Which seems unlikely...." (and . . . raise one eyebrow).

Don't engage with it (like we are doing - oops!)

As far as unseating Labour is concerned, Musk and the bot-heads and the grifters and shysters have gone much too early.

This petition on the UK Gov and Parliament website calling for another election (ridiculous) has just gone over 2 million signatures. Of course, its never gonna come to anything, but parliament will have to consider it for debate as its got over 100,000 sigs. Anyway here it is

Yes, they may have gone back on a few promises but doesn't every incoming gov't do the same when faced with certain economic realities. I didn't vote for them but give them some time FFS.

In this case, not true.

They are asking for something that is against our constitution and so will be simply filed under B and not given any consideration, no-matter how many signatures are accrued.

SKS was interviewed by Andi Peters, who mentioned it. He was matter of fact, explaining thats not how things work, and he’s had to do some difficult things which aren’t popular.
An adult reply imo.

Very good point.

It is on a par with a motion to make all the cheese on the moon free to people on benefits.

Looking at the voting map, Clacton seems to be a leading hotbed of activity, suggesting the whole thing is Reform generated. No wonder Musk is getting involved if his frog faced pal is part of it.

Well at least they won't have spent all day extolling the virtues of this petition all over the Labour Party meltdown incoming thread ..... oh :dunce:

Sums it up, from the BBC web page:

"Sir Keir Starmer has said he is "not that surprised" that some people who did not vote Labour in the last election want a "re-run" of the poll."

:lolol:

I'd be interested to know how many readers of NSC who voted Labour earlier this year are now in favour of a second general election (presumably so they can correct their earlier stupidity*)?

My money is on none at all.

Perhaps we need a poll.

(although I can imagine the sorts who would lie on it, claiming to have been Starmer fan boys only monthes ago, but who now feel betrayed..... <sigh>)

I'm quite enjoying all this nonsense.

And in other news, turkeys fail to vote for Christmas. Again!

*And I'd like to know how they can be sure they are not being silly this time.

Quite. Whatever happened to “The democratic will of the people”? Or doesn’t it count when they lose?
It’s a nonsense petition and is nothing more than a bit of social media trolling. There were 48 million people registered to vote in July and 9 million of them voted Labour. So even if Labour were performing really well there are still potentially nearly 40 million people who would be minded to sign such a thing yet only 2 million have done so. So a very large majority of the people who didn’t vote for Labour, me included, have accepted the result without calling for another election.

In a democracy, even one as flawed as a first past the post system, people should respect the result. That goes for the 2024 election and it goes for the Brexit referendum. Neither side can have it both ways.

The right wing groups in the US have been sharing uk postcodes for non uk people to use.

Lots of london ones, some in Yorkshire. Surprisingly many of not all are in labour mp constituencies

Now I wonder why?
Yes, I saw the list on X for people to use. I haven’t yet cancelled my account but still read it.

I hope that this petition disappears asap.

The turkeys have indeed voted for this Christmas gift and should 'enjoy' the benefits.
