I do not want a

TCL 55QM8B 55-inch QLED Mini LED Smart TV, 4K HDR Premium 1300nits, Powered by Google TV (Dolby Vision & Atmos, Onkyo 2.0 sound system, 144Hz Motion Clarity Pro, Hands-Free Voice Control) [Energy Class G]

For only £548, although I have been transferred to the Amazon page far too many times when opening threads.

I can just about accept the squeezing of the NSC page to put adverts down the side after opening a thread, but this is getting too much.
Yes there needs to be a balance, but at the moment it has gone too far.

@Bozza - Again this morning I was directed to Amazon.

Now I get that you have to cover the running costs of the site, I have no idea what the costs of hosting, licensing, admin and other running costs may be.

But the interference of the redirections and adverts are now becoming excessive. As I’ve stated I get that there are running costs etc. but whenever we buy from Amazon we always use the ‘link’ at the top of the page, so the site benefits, even though it may often be possible to purchase the products from alternative online suppliers. I have no idea how many monthly, or annual subscribers the site now has, or as you state, subscribers whose payments are in excess of the listed monthly or annual subscription costs, or if this income plus the 'link' and advertisement incomes are sufficient to cover the cost.

The site is unique in its BHA coverage and other ‘chat’, but it’s difficult to get the balance right between generating enough to to cover all site costs etc. against peeing members off so they go elsewhere.

This site is destroying the charge on my iPad. It seems to be just this site, via Chrome, I can almost watch the battery level click down. If I shut this site then all goes back to normal. What the hell is it doing in the background?

It’s all very jumpy and constantly refreshing- very similar to when you click on newspaper stories and go to their feeds … constantly jumping about. I have also clicked on threads and been sent to Amazon.

Would just like to say though that it is what it is and we are where we are.

Being able to come on to NSC is a privilege and one which I am very grateful for.

If it jumps around forever then so be it

Sorry - my mum's just had another fall and I need to get her to A&E.

I was hoping to take a good look at the ad setup today, but that's now not going to happen, but hopefully I'll get the chance to look properly later this week.

The Amazon redirect is a strange side effect of a new thing on the site. I'd re-enabled it to allow the vendor to test things, but as it's still ongoing today, I'll turn it off again now before I dash away.

As ever - there is no intention to piss people off. There is a balance to be struck on ads, and I always aim to have it so that most reasonable people accept what I put on the site. I could turn ads off for me, but I always use the site with the same ad setup as everyone else.

I know there is a hardcore of people who are anti-ad and will block all the ads all the time, which is a shame for NSC, but it is what it is.

@Bozza

I haven’t been able to record it, but today, I have been redirected to Amazon, Sage and Adobe photos, simply by trying to open threads or reply.
It‘s constantly refreshing itself especially when trying to reply.
Edit, sorry, I’ve just seen the above and I hope your Mum is okay.

I'm pretty sure what is happening is the code is somehow messing with the page such that when you click on an internal NSC link, somehow it's being interpreted as you clicking on one of the ad banners somewhere else on the page.

The vendor has made another config change so I'm going to re-enable it shortly.

Please, anyone, if you get what looks like a strange redirect to another site, then post here so I know.

Bit of a Catch-22 as the huge amount of ads make the site virtually unusable.

I use Chrome, with ads, for every website on the web except North Stand Chat because it eats my CPU/memory and freezes my browser/computer. I use Opera with ad-blocking here instead. Its not a choice I make through greed or generally being anti-ads, its just something I need to do in order to use this website. I'm probably not alone.

Try it with Opera or another browser. For whatever reason - probably linked to the ads though there could be other stuff - the NSC + Chrome combo is dire, at least for me.
