That's one small World Cup qualifiers.

I remember having a conversation with a Pole and saying about them not being a country until 1922. They didn't seem to be aware.
To be fair, there had been a Polish country at various stages before that, so while he might just have been ignorant, I imagine they just don't think of it that way.

I suspect I've mentioned before, that when I was at university I had a chat with a French PhD student (as in he was French and studying for a PhD, he wasn't studying French) who was totally unaware that Algeria was part of France for decades until the 1960s. It's amazing how uninformed genuinely intelligent people can be about their own country's history.
