To be pedantic it means "from the bridge', so historically the derivation of the surname was to describe someone who lived in the vicinity of a bridge or under a bridge.

So from that we are led to understand that Bart is a descendant of a family of trolls.
That would be van de Bruggen. It's an old Dutch word meaning to sell.

Some would say Verbruggen bridged his way to avoid leaving a gap between him and the oppo player. Bart certainly was not trolling the oppo player.
