I have suddenly started getting sound adverts (two for Amazon) when looking at NSC. The only way to stop them is to refresh. And then minutes later they start again. Weird.

Is it also a visible banner? If so, where?

I'm pretty sure I know what it will be, as I've only made one change to NSC in the last six months or so, and it was on Monday afternoon.

The change should only impact a small number of NSCers, and certainly not patrons.

I can quickly remedy that however - I’ll do some testing of my own.

Yes and have done for years but only on my PC. Not changed any of it's settings for ages.
The change is so those who ad-block relentlessly, and haven't white-listed NSC, contribute to the running of the site.

But this issue is only happening on my phone which isn't running an ad-blocker! PC seems fine as I can still play You Tube music etc in the background without them stopping while viewing NSC.

If you have ad banners on NSC pages on your phone then that probably shouldn't happen.

What I don't know is how the Adblock-detector tech works. It's clearly not perfect because NSC Patrons were getting hit, something I've been able to test and confirm.

So if the Adblock-detector says "Are there any ad banners being rendered?" and, if not, does its thing then that would explain why Patrons were getting hit. I can fix that easily.

If people aren't ad-blocking, and do have ad banners on their page then it shouldn't happen. But I can take that up with the vendor to investigate.

I've never used an ad blocker and still have the advert noise and audio symbol appear on the tab if that helps with your conversation

Just a note... I discovered the AVAST package I have had on my PC for years includes an 'anti-tracking' component and also has a whitelist which I have now added northstandchat.com to... hopefully that will help.

Don't know if there is any sound, but Amazon is continually crowding out the NSC screen on my Samsung tablet and often making it impossible to type a post without visiting Amazon site about 10 times in the process.
