Three stories on that aspect:
I once attended a speech from an author who wrote some polemic books that basically led me to my career. I was very disappointed to find in real life they were nothing like I had imagined / hoped. A real wet lettuce.
At a conference I sat next to a QC at dinner time who is like a god in our world - one of the very best. It was lovely to find he was a great chap, warm, friendly and approachable - and funny. And even better, he told me about an article he had read recently in our professsion's magazine and how interesting he had found it. It was anonymous, because of it's content and identifiability if the author was known. The author was me! I was so made up.
I also had a few beers with Nicholas Crane once - and he was great as well. Really chattable to - but I guess it helped that I did the sort of work he was interested in himself.

My wife is very good friends with Michael Eavis’s God daughter. However we never have, nor will mention the word “tickets”

A mate who I met doing winter seasons and stayed in touch with is the brother of Holly Barton from Emmerdale Farm. He never mentioned it but after meeting her a few times someone mentioned it to me.
My wife's goddaughter's uncle is Simon Climie.
He came to their wedding and composed a song for the ceremony.
I'd never heard of him but apparently he is of Climie Fisher fame

My wife is very good friends with someone who was famous in showjumping, I obviously know them now but genuinely haven't a clue who they are in terms fame.
One of my best mate's brother in law is Flintoff. Which he still finds weird.

At one point she had a loose connection with cricket.
My brother-in-law is world-famous and (I think) seen as the absolute best in the world at what he does (did). Problem is, it's so obscure that I've only ever met one person who has ever heard of him. Partly because I don't move in those kind of circles. I was with him when he got recognised in Waitrose in Haywards Heath though, so that was exciting.
