Anywhere Hinsh is asked to play RB, LB, Holding Mid, Attacking Mid, the lad delivers in spades, the lad is 19years old, how good can he be?, Thought he worked great with Ayari ( who has been a revelation).
Agree.
The fact we didn’t miss Baleba (who is also exceptional) says it all.

However, I still think we’d have won had Milner played.
When Liverpool had their 20 minute spell, we needed to change the tempo, whether that was with subs (which it probably should have been) or someone (Milner) slowing it down, clattering one of their players, getting in the refs ear….. We needed to break the game up.

Ayari is a great reminder to us all of the need to show patience with signings, especially the younger ones. Just because somebody takes a few games to get up to speed, or has an underwhelming loan spell immediately after moving to a new country and probably away from their parents for the first time, doesn't mean they should be written off.

Hands up, I thought Ayari would be on his bike this summer, but it turns out his crap loan spells at Cov and Blackburn were mostly down to Cov and Blackburn being shit.

I think that is extremely unlikely. He might have been useful in that spell you describe - but the 60 minutes that preceded it - where we shocked Liverpool with our high tempo, would never have happened, and we most probably would never have had a lead to protect!

It is an interesting one. In pre-season it seemed to be a question of whether Ayari or Sarmiento would get that squad spot.

Ayari got it and is now starting ahead of £25m Wieffer. Sarmiento is back bench warming in the Championship.

Football really is a profession of sliding doors moments. You have to grasp the opportunity when it comes. This is why players are often so desperate to jump ship when an offer from a big club arrives - professionally speaking you can't blame them (though you can go about it more respectfully than Trossard and Cucu).

Ayari is clearly super talented with an amazing pair of feet. However when we've been under the cosh, second halves against Wolves and Liverpool, does he have any defensive chops? In a two man midfield it's needed. Not to dig a young player at all, but I felt that our midfield rather disappeared at this time. Fab tends to do like for like swops in the middle whereas adding a third player to the mix might be a better option?

God I already forgot about Sarmiento. We really do have an embarrassment of riches in the midfield area now, I thought Moran also look quality preseason, he was awesome against Villareal, played extremely similarly to Ayari though.

In Jan we will have Gomez too, so for the CAM position we can field any of Pedro, Rutter, O'Riley, Gomez, Gruda, Buonanotte, Sarmiento, Enciso, Osman,

That’s a fair challenge and of course we’ll never know.
All very hypothetical, but given how well we were working the ball, I remain confident we’d have been in the lead, high tempo or not.

Either way, we are missing this level of experience currently.

I agree - it is his experience that is key - I think he would have been ideal to come on at 60 mins ish to try and keep us on our toes as the inevitable onslaught unfolded

Funny: I thought he was better in the second half against Wolves than he was in the first. He was the only midfielder who didn't seem quite on it in the first half as I saw it, whereas in the second, it felt like FH had given him a huge confidence boost at half time and told him to go out there and take control of the game.

Not his game today, think I was voluably highlighting his ineffectiveness today and whilst a few disagree I do wonder why we start within him. Was not at the races toda!

He wasn't, no. But he was more than ok in all his recent games, getting better as he went. He can have a blip against Man City, I forgive him.

It was not Ayari's game today. Gave the ball away 4 times in key areas and picked up a silly booking, needs to get the balance right with his flicks and his presses, but there's no doubt he has talent and vision. Hopefully he'll get gametime with Sweden too to aid his development.

I get that you need patience with kids but - ultimately - it was the class off our bench that turned defeat into victory.

He's certainly grabbed his chance this year but with a fully fit squad he's not going to be starting. Thought yesterday he showed a bit of immaturity as when on a yellow card he was chasing back one City player and was pulling him back, possibly grabbing a shirt. The city player stayed on his feet and got away. Had he not, that could well have been a second yellow and we would have been down to 10.
