Agree about reputation but not every fan following a club is an ultra and I suspect it's often the non violent ones that get targeted.

There were (and still probably are) fans in this country who didn't like their clubs signing black players or even more ridiculously hated the oppositions black players but 'tolerated' their own. It's not that long ago that bananas were thrown on pitches. But again nowhere near the majority.

Its also not that long ago when English fans were very anti Irish because of the Troubles and they were pretty minor to what is going on in the ME.

What went on is wrong on many levels and sides and for someone to say the beatings were ok because their fans generally have a bad reputation is monstrous.

I agree the beatings were wrong but to look at it with the context of Football Related violence is very important.

I've been watching this all day on the news and via radio.
I think I can honestly say that Amsterdam and the Ajax fans were the friendliest of all the teams we played in Europe.
Shared metro trains to and from the ground. My disabled mate was taken through the home stand and no problems. A great welcome from those in the town. What was it, 6000+ Albion in town and I didn't see or hear any problems, even when we beat them. The after party in the centre went perfectly.
So I say to all the press, stop mentioning football. It may well have been a segment of the Maccabi fans who went looking for trouble, the same as a small contingent of Amsterdam idiots may have thought the same. But it was not football fans fighting football fans.

Bizarre accusation, of course they are also anti Israel and to an extent anti Jewish, so that isn’t really “clearly”, but it’s important to look at it as football related violence as well, I’m obviously very aware of anti semitism, and have friends who are active in the Israeli football scene, with Hapoel. But then again this isn’t the first thing you’ve accused me of with no meaning here. I’m just trying to have a debate on it here, but you keep on accusing me of statements I didn’t make, or making assumptions, based on misreading, I think we’ll have to agree to disagree, but these are obviously anti Israel attacks, but it’s important to take into account Football Violence and Maccabi Ultras, that is what I’m saying.

I wasn't suggesting otherwise, only highlighting that MTA fans were more likely than most other Israeli clubs' supporters to be targeted, that on top of how their ultras conducted themselves before the clashes, there is slightly more context to this incident than just the country where MTA is based. And I certainly have not justified any indiscriminate violence - I'm not English, but I abhor the idea that any football fan should be attacked because of the actions of their club's worst supporters (let alone their faith or other characteristics).
