[Food] Lose 7lbs in November

Firstly congrats to everyone one losing or trying to lose weight.

A few years back three work colleagues decided to lose weight. Two went for it big time and lost a fair bit of weight over a 6 month period, the other took it slowly and lost weight over a year and a half. The two the lost weight fast eventually put it back on however the one that took it slowly kept the weight off and if her FB is anything to go, by some 10years later the weight is still off. She had tried a number of diets with similar results of weight going straight back on. She said she was recommended by a friend about the ‘slow but surely approach‘ and so gave it a go. The benefits were she only had to make minor adjustments to her diet and so never really had the hunger pangs that the other two had. The end result was that she lost a couple of stone and kept the weight off.

Diet's almost inevitably fail over time, whereas a change of eating habits CAN be maintained, with a bit of discipline...

I find, like Zammo* the key is to "just say no"!

*one for the oldies...
I should say that she did increase exercise which in her case was a lot of walking. The biggest change was stopping takeaways. If she wanted a curry she’d make one rather the get a takeaway.

Slow and steady is the way to go. Long term habit change not short term diets and restrictions. (I do not say this from a position of achievement - I have never managed to keep hold of any weight loss in the long term). However....

Day 7: 15st 13.5lb
-4.5lb

Chuffed. Can't wait to see what everyone else has achieved on results day tomorrow.

132kg down to 130.6kg so about 3 pounds down in week 1.

I’ve not been particularly strict the whole time but have managed portion sizes better and cut most of the bread out which has made a difference. Any sins have been in moderation.


I do an hours weights in the morning and 30 mins (2 mile walk) straight after and have been doing this for a a while (if you want a benchmark on how much shit I eat since stopping smoking!!)

This week I’ve also introduced a stepper which I use for 5-10 mins between meetings and als 10 mins a hour before dinner to fire up the metabolism, despite my under active thyroid it’s nice to see some results from the effort.

I’d rather lose my weight over a 9 month period with some treats and moderation built in rather than a strict 5 months period of hell.

Good to see so many on here sticking to it. Hoping this thread continues into the new year 👍🏻

I lost 10kg in September (I was starving, I had an omelette for dinner for 23 days straight) it was a quick win before a holiday to feel better in myself and I got back down to my happy weight of around 82kg before holiday. It wasn’t sustainable obviously. An all inclusive holiday and some weeks of bad habits after, I’m back up to around 90kg so I’m going to jump on if I’m not too late?

Have just got a new dog so I’m walking 15k steps a day which is awesome, just need to sort the all important eating habits out. Salmon and med veg for dinner tonight to get started as well as a meal prepped lunch for work rather than a grab and go sandwich / meal deal.

well done all so far, looking forward to sharing my own (hopefully positive) results too

Get yourself on the erg (rowing machine). It works 85% of your body and according to the pure gym website is one of the best bit of kit for losing weight.

pan roasted venison striploin rubbed in sumac, Italian salsa verdi, and rice. Love venison. A lovely lean meat perfect for diets. (The meat looks well done but it’s not. It was a little too rare, so each slice got a few seconds more on each side back in the pan)

Looks great! Another high protein and low fat meat for dieting is Ostrich… not the easiest to get hold of but I love it

Weighed myself today thinking it was a week already (!). Down 2.4lbs just by cutting out majority of snacks (not all) and a little bit more exercise.
Really looking forward to keeping this up for as long as I can. Thanks to the OP for inspiring me!

That’s very good.
We have a concept2 rower. Having just looked at prices are now eye wateringly expensive BUT extremely robust and will last donkeys years. The cheaper Rowers aren’t as robust and I know from a work colleague his only lasted a couple of years.
it’s very much a case of you get what you pay for.

Don't just dump a load of weight in some herculean effort, and then put it back on, but slightly change the way you live for the better.

it’s very much a case of you get what you pay for.
I agree, Concept2 is the gold standard. We’ve got a water rower and that’s still going strong after 10 years (although I don’t use it as much as I should)

Good stuff - just make sure you don't celebrate at the end with food.

You could treat this month as a kick-start, and then afterwards move to a long term sensible *diet


* diet being what we live off, not the short term weight loss meaning

Love that. How much did the bench/frame, barbell and weights cost?
I’ve been adding to it over the years, it’s all from Bodymax.

I got the power rack, with cable pulldown, bench, barbell and 2x20kg 2x15kg 2x10g 2x5kg, 2x2.5kg and 2x1.25kg plates for £899 around 8 years ago

Dumbells - dialatech (2kg to 32kg)by York £299 about 10 years ago

I’ve since added
Hex bar £75
EZ bar £35
Spin bike £180
Cable pull down bricks (rather than free weights) £240
Additional weight plates probably £200-£300
Sissy Squat machine £120

Solid brand and it’s all still useable and a negligible cost for 8 years when you compare that to commercial gym membership

I try and think lifestyle rather than diet. Food, exercise and importantly, mental health. Comfort eating/drinking, when under stress and anxious, is a trip wire.
