Right. But that's got nothing to do with what I posted!
You said no one would have beaten Trump, but that surely has to do with the calibre of the candidates which is what the guy said to me in November 2016?

Just out of interest Greg, in almost a fantasy election type scenario, are you saying Michelle Obama (many people's candidate choice) would have lost?

It’s the people of Ukraine I worry for. He’s shown a worrying propensity for fawning over Putin.

The rest (while occasionally abhorrent) I’m less fussed over, but my great fear is that he’s going to appease Putin and hand over Ukraine’s land.
And shrug his shoulders when Putin goes for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Then the UK, France and the rest of Europe have a big question to answer.

I cannot understand why your average American would vote for him. I don't generally struggle with empathising with other people, in fact I am usually quite good at it.

Can you enlighten me?

I have heard that they voted for him to improve their lot economically. But I remain unconvinced that he is a better economic candidate and his policy of adding taffifs to Chinese imports is surely going to make the cost of living higher. So I don't understand this.

The ABC over here said the exit polls showed that the main reason people voted was democracy. And his track record in this area seems sketchy to say the least. So I don't understand this either.
It's a bit like Brexit and Reform party: simple policies for simple people. The fact that such policies can't actually be implemented without significant cost is a mere detail that gets lost in the cult-like following that such parties establish.

Like it or not he will be US President for the next 4 years & we have to work with him at the same time as behind the scenes trying to influence him on important issues. Going forward insults from our senior politicians are really not helpful.

So for balance , does trump have any redeeming features

I'll start

He will push back on woke culture
That’s a decent gag. He and his kind thrive on ‘Wokeism’. The last thing they’ll want is for it to stop. What would they use to scare middle America?

Those supporting him will be looking for a nationwide abortion ban and will be turning their sights on gay marriage if that’s what you mean.

Well, I just put myself into a fat idiot from Idaho's shoes and I still can't see it.
Its kind of hard when his (admittedly few) supporters on here have failed to put together any kind of coherent argument for supporting him.

I put it down to feelings, because the facts do not back up supporting him. But then this begs the question as to why people would choose to use feelings instead of facts to vote in a politician.

I heard someone saying that this election was about who the voters don't like rather than who they do.

How someone comes up short against him though is beyond me.

Tax cuts
Spend spend spend (making people wealthier in the short term)
Send back the illegals
Protectionism
America first
Anti woke
End wars globally.

These arent my views. But these are valid reasons to vote for him and his policies are pretty clear.

There must be tens of millions of sexist women there then.
Yeah 100% - even my missus seems to think women as presidents/PMs doesn’t work on the global stage it’s a bit odd

Personally, now that he has got them in he has little more use for the puppetmasters. It would be no surprise that in 6-8months time there will be a successful assassination and Vance takes over. Feeling paranoid this morning

I'd say that's spot on

Oddly the public don't like being called Nazis, trash and racist by smug TV folk, I'd love to know how many swing voters this attack line lost.

One Hope from me in this is that it will push us inexorably closer to Europe.
We're more isolated than ever in a world more and more protectionist. We need to re-open trade to those on our doorstep ASAP
