He was a front bencher for the opposition for god's sake. If I came out with a statement like this on social media against the CEO of a rival company I worked for I would be fired on the spot.

It was a childish and pathetic statement to put out.

I'm amazed arguments about OUR political differences has somehow broken out when you have America to compare it to.

We argue about boring shit like tickets to football matches, what "working people" means (when we all know) and words on a bus.

We need to do better. We are so boring.

The upside is, John Oliver's show is going to be excellent for the next 4 years.

Just amazing given all that happened after the last election he's able to run and win again. Bleating about it being fixed, calling people asking for votes. Twiddling his thumbs whilst his supporters stormed the Capitol. Mental really.

We can debate the Republican vs. Democrat models all you like. I've accepted that America is weird and I know nothing of what it's like to live there. But I'm just so annoyed that they can't get someone in with at least a modicum of decency as a candidate. I'm trying not to think too much about his global impact as it's pretty depressing. But from a selfish point of view I just don't want to have to see/hear the orange tosspot for another 4 years.

Every chance the ukraine war wouldn't have happened. Biden's policy was first of all, to tell Russia that America wouldn't stand in Russia's way if they invaded; second, to feed Ukraine with enough weapons to avoid defeat but not enough to win. In other words, the effect of his policy (it's hard to tell whether this was its aim, but surely not) was to let the war drag on.

We don't know what Harris's policy would have been and we don't know what Trump's will be. He hasn't made it clear, so far as I can tell, whether he wants Ukraine to win or whether he wants Russia to keep their gains. But it's not hard to think of scenarios better than what we have now.

This is the real rub. It should, but it won't.

The big fear with Brexit has now come true. Not only is our economy 5% down year on year but we are outside the EU and politically isolated, Trump is in charge in the States and seemingly sympathetic to Putin, who is waging war in Eastern Europe.

The brain says Customs Union / Single Market but Starmer and Badenoch have ruled that out. For me, it is by far the worst thing about Starmer and deprives the UK of an option that could be even more attractive once Trump brings in his disastrous tariff policy and the inevitable global chaos / trade wars that will ensue.

I've only just logged on, but I assume this thread has been full of sensible, rational and non-tribal debate, with no name calling or throwing toys out the pram or anything like that since the direction the election was going in was known?

What we have now is Ukrainians defending their country with success, holding Russian territory that they themselves invaded, draining the Russian economy so that interest rates and inflation are rampant, the Russian body count is through the roof and conscription is so difficult as there are no young men left to conscript without killing economic production at the same time so now that they have to call upon North Koreans troops to do their fighting, the Russian people are dissatisfied and the oligarchs are voicing their displeasure.

Another 12 months of this and Putin might have been gone. Until now.

Oh come on! I’m all for hypotheticals, but Trump’s position is extremely clear.


I don’t know if you’re playing devil’s advocate or what, but Trump and Putin’s relationship is undeniable. Trump called his move to invade Ukraine “genius” and “savvy”.


This is classic victim blaming. What you’re implying is that if Trump were president, Ukraine would’ve been convinced to cede even more territory to Russia to appease Putin.

Sound familiar?

One person who voiced similar comments to lammy has just been elected vice president.

His comments were back in 2017. Given what happened during that presidency, he wasn't wrong.

It is better to have a wary person now dealing with Trump than a sycophant.

The uk economy will be impacted if the US impose tariffs. Lammy's comments won't make that situation any worse.

Also don't forget that lammy and starmer both had a meeting with Trump in
New York a few weeks ago.
