What's overnight porridge?

This is my breakfast:

lunch/dinners comprising food your gran would recognise in green grocers, butchers, fishmongers, keep dinners/teas to small portions and plenty of exercise (building muscle mass v important). Allow treats but quality rather than quantity.

What are overnight oats?​

Overnight oats are basically oats which have been left to soak overnight in milk or water, rather than being cooked in the morning. This no-cook method allows the oats to absorb the liquid overnight and soften them so that they are ready to eat in the morning. This makes overnight oats a quick and easy breakfast option, and you can easily customise them with different toppings and sauces.


…we load the oats with chia & mixed seeds, raisins, blueberries etc and leave in the fridge overnight. In the morning I just pour over some oat milk.

Thanks. Maybe I can try that to save time. Not that my porridge takes too long - I shower, pop the porridge on the hob, get dressed and come down and it's nearly ready.

Nice.

You could try nut butter rather than honey to keep the sugar spike down and up the protein. And mixed seeds sprinkled on the top will add some amazing texture and vitamins.

Porridge season is slow to start for me this year because it's been so warm, but I love it to kick off the day.

Thanks. I don't have much honey though and it's not bad for you. I certainly wouldn't expect it to be a sugar spike.

I could try that. I do like it as it is though.

If I run out of raspberries or yoghurt I'll sometimes have muesli, but porridge is better for me for weight loss.

Do you weigh out the porridge?

Diets often state a paltry 50g. I take more than that, justifying this with I’m quite a bit taller than the average Joe.

Yes. When I really wanted to lose weight a few years ago I had 50g, but apart from that period I always have 60g. I pop a bowl on scales, add the porridge, milk up to 230g then water to around 390/400g.


I take more than that, justifying this with I’m quite a bit taller than the average Joe.

I'm shorter than the average Joe, but porridge is good for you!

I have without really trying reduced carb portions over possibly ten years. Before that breakfast would be 4 Weetabix or a bowl to the brim with porridge. But 50g is just too far for me.

Yeah you don't need to go that light. But the yoghurt and raspberries add a bit and are nice.

I usually just have a banana for lunch, but today I had cock instead.

It was supposed to be cock au vin, but the chef said there was no wine in it.

Right I’m in. Bit late but needs must. Weighed in last night after reading this thread. I’m XXst 11lb

I had not long eaten my dinner so for the sake of round numbers my personal target for November will be to get to 00lb

Today’s lunch would normally be the £4 CoOp meal deal of a (cold) fried chicken wrap (tastes better than it sounds) a Ginsters pie and a smoothie. That ends now.

I’ll probably end up making some sandwiches.

It’ll be a Lidl salad and a roll (I won’t be dropping bread in any serous way, although I will cut down)

Day 5: 85.90kg (13st 7lb) and 17.7% body fat.

That’s 0.6kg (2lb) down from the day 1 weigh-in, almost back down to my low on day 2.

My November progress:-
Nov 1st - 14st 8lb
Nov 2nd - 14st 7lb
Nov 3rd - 14st 6lb
Nov 4th - 14st 7lb
Nov 5th - 14st 6lb

I'm a bit of a saddo for keeping spreadsheets, and found one I had done in 2015, when I had an almost identical starting point. On that occasion, 9 years ago, I got down to 14st 8lb, so this is the lightest I have been for 9 years. In fact I said to my wife that I think this is the lightest I have ever been (meaning that I could remember). Her reply, you must have been a f***ing big baby! :D

I use the RP diet app to control my weight . Bulking and cutting cycles as like weight training dropped close to 30 kg in 3 years and got to my lowest weight of 83 kg couple months ago while not losing strength . Best thing ive ever done . Have to weigh everything though

Day 4 completed. I think I,m doing OK.

Just leaving home now for Dieppe and in the UK for the Man City game before returning here on Sunday night.

Normally I pack the car with snacks galore to ease the boredom. Not today though. No sireee

I have packed my weighing scales from here so there is no discrepancy

Some improvement today, although I'll give it a couple of days before stating the numbers to give it a chance to settle down.

I have noticed that, as my scales are a bit shonky, if they appear to show no improvement then I step back on two or free times to see if it changes its mind. While if it shows I've lost a pound or two then I'm off them so fast it's like they've been electrified. :lolol:
