[Albion] Away fans in home ends

Brighton factually.....
Reading this i feel really sorry and angry for all the genuine fans who spent a lot of hard earned money to travel a long way to support the Albion, to be surrounded by Southern Liverpool fans.

I was pissed off to be sat next to a local Liverpool fan on Wednesday and it spoilt the night, the result less so, but being sat next to him really really pissed me off, especially in the North Stand.

if I had gone up and had to endure some the stories on here, id be spitting feathers.
it seems over the last few games, Brighton has been infiltrated.

some have suggested we are either too nice, or are suffering from second team syndrome, I’m not sure which.

With 3,000 tickets to sell, and in our 8th season in the prem (7th with fans at games) - these things are going to go on sale to those with far less regular attendance.

My view is that perhaps it would be better to take a smaller allocation to reduce such an issue of home fans in the away end or remodel the ticketing system to ‘games attended’ and a minimum threshold of X away games before you can purchase for Anfield / Emirates etc..!
Taking a smaller allocation would prevent fans like me and my family from attending games. I have supported the Albion since 1976 and we now live too far away to keep up our season tickets. There have been loads of threads on here encouraging the club to take maximum allocation to give fans like us the chance of attending games. We can’t travel far because of health issues but we can and do support the club in the North West. Now a few people can’t cope with having a few of the opposition in with us it seems a little over the top to suggest taking a smaller allocation or an attendance threshold. Beware unintended consequences.

Agreed, it’s defeatist a attitude

At Anfield there were BHAFC ‘fans’ who got their phones out whenever Liverpool had a corner at our end, but not when we had one.

The passive nature of our away end was a sorry state. It’s felt almost tourist, rather than psssionate.

As for this bloke - spent most the first half with back to the game, chatting and ignoring a steward who was telling him to turn round.

We get told the allocation is about loyalty. It’s clearly not and it is killing the atmosphere.

Most importantly it is a mockery of how the Club tell us the system is fair.

Admin - I’ll take down the photo if you feel it’s inappropriate.

Totally agree. I didn't spot any 'home' fans where I was stood in AL8 and there was a decent of singing.

In any event, those 'home' fans would have been a very small number out of our overall allocation. We dominated the first half and led until the 69th minute. That should have been a big enough incentive for us to create a wall of sound to make it uncomfortable for the 'enemy'.

I have no idea whether or not it is inappropriate but when you took it how were you watching the game or contributing positively to the atmosphere ? I noticed the phone thing as well but that’s 2024/social media for you. Rather than gossiping about the inevitable PL tourist hangers on it is probably better to focus on those of us who had a great day (despite the result) and will be going to games at Preston, Stoke etc if /when we are eventually relegated. Plenty of us there yesterday as well.

The suggestion of taking a smaller allocation to resolve this is almost as bizarre as that idea someone had on here once about 25,000 of us wearing a face mask of the late Mr Knockaert Snr to greet his son as he walked out of the tunnel

What about the bloke with the blanked out face, he doesn’t seem to be watching the match?
Everyone behind the other one looks like they are watching the match and ignoring him

Would it? A higher threshold of entry for tickets would eliminate the ‘day-tripper’ phenomenon being described. Well that, and a revision of the 1901 passable tickets / comp tickets..

Its a fair point that you make, like most loyalty schemes - there are flaws in the existing structure - which lead to this unintended consequence of tickets going to those supporting the opposition.

I hope it can be fixed to prioritise people in your position with limited ability to attend.

As members living in Merseyside we have never missed buying tickets for a local game but this year it was close. We bought in the first minute of the membership window opening. Over the years I have only ever missed securing tickets for two games I wanted to attend which were Arsenal away in the first year in the PL and Shrewsbury away when we won a promotion about 20 years ago. We lived down South for both. Tickets for Shrewsbury went on sale when we were away on holiday. If I had my time again and could choose between those games I would definitely take the Shrewsbury tickets rather than the Arsenal. That’s what the Liverpool tourists will never understand. I feel sorry for them.

I agree with that it shouldn’t mean people miss out with smaller allocations, but in terms of can’t cope, no one in the area I was in could get a song going, I don’t want an away end filled with opposition, let alone it being a few, it’s a large group. We don’t want a Rugby atmosphere.

Well, I took it during an injury break. My contribution involved singing, hollering support etc.

But thanks for the generally snotty response.

I’ll see you in Preston.

:) I’m not actually bothered how you supported yesterday. That’s kind of my point. Life is too short to worry about what others do on your day out at the football. What we can agree on is that these ‘Southern reds’ are weirdos. I’m actually a little embarrassed that they came up from Sussex to my home city to support a club with which they have no affinity. Please keep them down South next year.

Have you, or anyone else, contacted the club about this issue? It seems to me to the be easiest thing in the world to get to the bottom of and then resolve i.e. club steward asks to see the ticket of the person(s) wearing Liverpool tops/scarfs etc.
