All forced out by Johnson. One Nation Tories are few on the ground now, and the remaining members far to the right of them these days, so no chance of any of them becoming leader. The more to the right they tack, their chances of recruiting more moderate members vanishes. Would be on their way to becoming a fringe party if our mainstream press wasn't so Anti-Labour
Someone posted on NSC last week that the current Labour government are the worst government in UK history.

Some very rum coves about. ???

Let’s be fair - if they had any decent candidates (Hunt or Cleverly maybe?) what was the point of being leader as they won’t get in next election (think Howard, Hague, Duncan Smith during Blaie era) better waiting for next time in 5 years time. Tories are doing what Labour did by voting for wrong Miliband then Corbyn. This country is generally run as the party closest to centre (slightly right) not severe left or right.

Jeremy Hunt is one of the most hated politicians ever. And Cleverly is twerp even by Tory standards.

Hunt? Even by Labour/Green supporters I've never heard him slagged off (away from the tiny nsc bubble where every Tory for 20 years has been hated).

IDS, Truss, Kwarteng, Braverman, Patel and all the foxhunters ... widely despised.

You should spend 30 minutes listening to members of my family who were teachers while he was Education Secretary. And they would go for that 30 minutes with barely a pause telling you everything he got wrong.

From what I gather, Junior Doctors think much the same from his time as Health Secretary. And we heard from Reeves just how duplicitous he was at the Treasury.

In my close family are a teacher, headteacher and NHS professionals, Hunt has never been mentioned.

I’ve seen this before on NSC, people have never knowingly met a Brexiteer. All their family, friends and colleagues apparently think exactly the same as them on major political issues and voting.

I prefer meeting a wide range of folk.

The doctors I knew were pretty damning about him when he was health secretary.

For my part, I have some fairly strong views about decisions made with regards infrastructure spending when he was Chancellor, but I've no real desire to get too into the discussion.

Most of my family don't agree with me about politics, incidentally. Conversely, most of my friends tend to disagree with me from precisely the opposite perspective. :lolol:

Either I regularly switch between channeling Chairman Mao and Nigel Farage, or there's some sort of variety of perspective there.

I have acted as a referee between Woke and young right wing followers.

If that was to do with railways? My own view was that a shedload of money could’ve been spent on the north, at a fraction of the cost of HS2, with huge benefits. The obvious one is a more direct and electrified line Hull - Leeds - Manchester - Liverpool. I realise the two central Manchester stations don’t align with that, but it’s amazing what can be done ….. look at Crossrail often under an 8m city.

There's all sorts of things the money could be spent on, but that's a different and more long term argument. I know there are good capacity arguments for HS2, so I wouldn't be entirely dismissive of the need to build a new line of some sort, but I do tend to agree with you that a decent portion of money could have been better spent.

But briefly and generally, I think a lot of the cuts and delays to various schemes that the last government made were the classic mistake clients make of confusing "delaying spending money" with "actually saving money". If I were being cynical (and giving them some credit) I'd suggest that they were aware of this.

I am, I'm aware, professionally invested in the idea of infrastructure spending, in much the same way as nobody who works in the NHS or Education will ever argue against more money being spent there and nobody at the treasury will ever be thrilled to receive a bill for billions of pounds.

Looking forward to seeking Kemi go up against SKS in PMQs. Two completely contrasting styles. SKS - calm, measured, forensic. Kemi - aggressive, punchy and takes no prisoners.

Box office.
