I posted something on here about CKR being a bit lazy and received a really abusive PM from his father/stepfather (?). I apologised and said I would not have posted it if I thought it would be read by his family. We became almost internet mates after that as he apologised to me about his rant. We then exchanged a few interesting PMs until CKR moved on.

Real shame you got abuse as it was pretty bloody exciting when you ”won” him

I remember my step dad telling me about the argument he had with another season ticket holder in the old west stand at the Goldstone. He discovered later that it was Teddy Maybank's father that didn't agree with my dad's views about him

I used to deliver the morning papers in Newhaven mid 80s. Had an extra Daily Star added to my round for the rooms above the White Hart pub - turned out it was for Alan Biley. Gave me a generous tip at Xmas.

I don't imagine any of the modern fans will ever understand the buzz of us literally winning a striker with bottle of coca cola. Incredible moment

When Alan Biley signed for the Albion he stayed for a while with the landlord of my parents' local. The landlord was an old friend having previously had a pub in Cambridge. Biley organised some of the players to come and play a match against the darts team and, after a bounce out, Joe Corrigan made a rude joke, (Yes that one) to my mum when she bent down to pick her dart up. In response my dad asked him outside. (In jest. He was massive).

What I thought was ‘strange’ is that I got approx 40 instances of what I can only describe as hate mail (or similar type communications) from Albion fans when the CKR signing started going south.

Cos it was obviously my fault right!? 😂

DK phoned me up at about 1030pm on the night CKR left to explain why we sold him, but my overriding emotion was genuine relief.
Assuming you were the competition winner? 👏🏻

I'm the reason Gerry Fell left the club

In 1977, our school needed a guest of honour at the Jubilee celebrations. Albion were contacted and Gerry and his wife were sent. They were positioned in the centre of the first float and I was sat next to him. Of course, this had nothing to do with my Mum organising the event...

As soon as I sat down, poor Gerry was bombarded with all sorts of questions to the point he sat in a stupor looking in the distance. I'm convinced he left to avoid having to meet 'that boy' ever again.

I once messaged Mark Lawrenson on Twitter (back in the days when he predicted the PL results). I asked him to please keep predicting defeats for the Albion as it seemed to be helping us win games. I didn't expect him to reply but he did!
What did he say?

Wasn't it Gary Chivers who was interviewed after a cup defeat (away at Swindon?) who thought it was a League match ? He kept referring to the points we had lost. Shows that not all footballers are clued up . :giggle:
And now he's on NSC.

Paging @jcdenton08

I live in London and had travelled down to the Withdean for a Saturday afternoon match v Sheff Utd. It was an infamous game, as those in attendance will recall, due to the refereeing performance of a certain Phil Prosser (perfect rhyming slang).

When I got home I couldn't stop ranting to my flatmates about it. We caught a cab up to Covent Garden as we were going out for a friend's birthday. Wondering around looking for the right pub, still absolutely fuming, and we bumped into none other than Bobby Zamora!

Needless to say, he agreed with me about Mr Prosser's performance..

Disappointingly, I can't remember exactly. It was something pretty anodyne anyway. On the other hand, Gary Stevens once answered me on Twitter and commented on my profile picture. It was a team photo of the Albion players from about 1982. He said he remembered it being taken and it brought back a lot of happy memories for him. We had a bit of back and forth and he seemed like a really nice bloke.

John Keeley told a brilliant story at Seagulls Over London years ago about being dragged from the pub drunk to play after Digweed? got injured.
