Wanting to represent your country at the Olympics isn't 'giving it billy big bollox'...
He chose it over a full pre-season here, after being out for a full year. So yeah I'd say it was. If he was fully fit then fair enough, but he wasn't, then he got injured again, probably because he wasn't fully fit. Then he misses the the end of pre-season and season start. He now finds 2 or 3 players way ahead of him.

His biggest problem now is he isn't going to get the match minutes here now to change it. Rutter walks back into the 11 on Saturday; Pedro is close now too, and with Ferguson now showing signs he's getting sharper and Welbeck on fire then where do Ensico's minutes come from? He's basically waiting for injuries.

Gruda contributed more last night than he did, Lamptey contributed more attacking wise than he did. It's not effort, he shows effort but there's no real end result, he doesn't influence the match enough, he doesn't tackle, he doesn't really take anyone on, he doesn't hold it up, what does he actually do? That was a big chance last night to get in the manager's thoughts, give him a selection dillema, he didn't take it. A 33 year old came on and contributed more actual tangible output in 15 minutes than he had in 75.

He's finished here IMO unless he changes his attitude, and was the moment he opened his mouth in public on Bloom and the Olympics (an event that pro football shouldn't even be in and that his country had very little chance of winning), great career choice.

Historically South American countries take Olympic football very seriously. I really don't see the issue with him wanting to play - his career is finite and he might not have got the opportunity to play in it again...

Was he not fully fit? He got significant minutes towards the end of last season - I don't think any of us really know that.

The minutes point I agree with you - but as I mentioned earlier in the thread he has barely had an opportunity this season, and last night was the first time he'd dropped a stinker. He was decent against Wolves and Crawley, and you can't really judge him on a few minutes here and there in the PL.

His confidence is clearly shot - at his best he does take players on - he's a great dribbler, incredibly direct with a low centre of gravity, and obviously has an incredible shot and pass on him.

He's obviously not finished here - he's being used a lightning rod for a shaky performance last night. Maybe a short loan would be beneficial for everyone in January, but he's 20 years old and has ridiculous potential. Still firmly believe he'll be great for us.

Gave the East Stand some grief in the first 10mins for being an absolute morgue and I rate him just for that.
I looked at the clock when he did that. It said three minutes.

Fair enough, berate the crowd if they're on your back, or encourage them to raise the noise levels if the team could do with an extra boost in a tricky period of the game.

But to start gesturing and moaning to a stand largely full of kids and pensioners when the game has hardly even got going seemed like a monumental waste of energy and concentration.

His best position is as a 10 and we have progressed significantly in that area this season.
Buononotte is developing nicely and looks likely to eclipse him for a place in the squad next season.

He has done a job on the wings, but we have significantly strengthened in this area too and have a couple of very decent prospects developing on loan.

If he's going to make a career with us, he really needs to show more, in the next couple of months.
If he doesn't,he will drop further down the pecking order, with Pedro, March and Minteh coming back for injury.

I think he very much has a future with us , but your post hits a lot of nails on the head imho .

I really like Enciso he has so much potential , i put him in the same group of players as Sarmiento and Buonanotte , i believe we can get the best from them and they will become very valuable to us .

Last night he didn`t really shine , but i like seeing a player take a speculative shot occasionally , it gets the crowd up and causes opportunities in the box . I won`t knock a player for geeing the crowd up , it shows to me that he cares .

I think he's got the potential to be a fantastic player and potentially our best player - but I don't think he's got the mentality to get there. Obviously, this is based on very little and I don't want to be too critical of him but I'm starting to worry he's not going to fulfil his potential with us. I think he's currently trending towards a January loan move away from the club which could be make or break.

I sat near the dugout last night and when he was subbed there was no interaction at all between player and manager as he walked off the pitch right next to FH.

Seemed odd as there's usually some sort of handshake/embrace/words in that situation.

Once those 3 are fit and add O'Reilly then I can actually see a situation where Enciso isn't picked in the match day 20 at all. Which is staggering in principal but becoming understandable in reality.

I was much further away than that, but I was watching, as I was curious to know what would happen as he took his place on the bench.

I didn't see any of the usual high-five sort of stuff with teammates – or any acknowledgements at all – and in fact he seemed to put his hands over his eyes for a bit when he sat down.

As others have said, though: he's 20, he's a big talent, and he's frustrated with himself. I hope he gets his mojo back.

Still in Brighton
Trusting just my memory I'm sure he had a good game against Crawley (awaiting someone to tell me he didn't play...). He was my favourite player last couple of seasons. But it wouldn't surprise me if he wants a move. It's just that he's not playing anywhere near well enough to gather much interest..
Really hope he can come good with us still.

How about you all get behind the lad, hes a fantastic player that just needs a goal

He was far from poor tonight, in fact he was always trying to be positive on the pitch.

Honestly its like if he dosent thrash one on from 30 yards or tear apart a side thats top of the prem after having not started a game for weeks he must have had a nighmtare and been shit

All i saw was a player trying his bloody hardest as he always does and trying to make something happen.
Agree, there is some very negative shit about a few players going around on this board at the moment, remind me, where are we in the PL table :nono:

Worth noting as well here how the club were well within their rights to say no.

There was in fact an incredibly high-profile instance of this happening this summer. A young man called Kylian Mbappe was keen to lead the French Olympic side into a home tournament only for his club, Real Madrid, to say that none of their players were allowed to play in the 2024 Olympics. He ultimately, against his wants, was forced to accept that decision.

The Albion could have done exactly the same thing with Enciso but chose not to stand in the way of his wants. I genuinely can't see what the issue is here.

Is that strictly true? He'd played a fair bit from the bench in our last dozen games in 23-24, which would've been part of trying to play himself back into form, so he was definitely physically fit albeit that 6 months out will have affected his technical sharpness. The Olympics meant he missed the Japan tour, butlet's be realistic that was a marketing excecise. To be honest, a competitive U23s international tournament seemed like better preparation for someone that needed competitive minutes. There were quite a few key players that missed that tournament for various reasons, including international duty in the case of Dunk and Bart.

100% this. I thought him and Fergie had a very similar, thankless task of pressing very high (which they both did with an incredible amount of effort throughout) only to have next to no support in the next phase from the midfield.

He had some really good moments on the ball, and an almost brilliant screamer in the first half. He's so young and so talented that it really baffles me that a chunk of our fanbase have decided he's a problem.

Yes, a narrative seems to have built up that he went against Tony Bloom's wishes. Fact is that Bloom agreed to his request to play for Paraguay rather than travel to Japan. The only player TB probably cared about going to Japan was Mitoma. Bloody hell, we even had Sima making up the numbers - a player you won't see in the stripes ever again.
