If you take out the defensive miscues, Tariq offers so much more going forward, similar to Pervis with Karou, that we simply don't get from Joel Veltman. Most people are forgetting the run to the byline and the cross to pop it on Adringa's bonce that caused the worldie from their keeper - if that goes in it's a different game.

Not sure of the pelters for the first goal, that's where he was told to be positioned - so he lost a header near the half way line? The slip was unfortunate, but we got away with it, mainly because the ball to szoboszlai was bouncing.......... so on the same theme, JPVH's header wasn't the best for their second goal, it wasn't exactly to Tariq's feet, but he probably should have done better - maybe row z should have been a better option for JPVH, just like row z should have been where it should have gone from Veltman for their 3rd......

Is he good enough - I'd play him ahead of Veltman for sides in the bottom half of the table where we will dominate possession as he gives us more when trying to break the low block.....

Just over a year ago, this was the player who ran the second half show against Marseille and got us a vital draw, some people would do well to remember that. He was instrumental in Evan's goal on Saturday and scored himself last night. I can't understand why some people are so quick to write him off, he's still an exciting player and can improve for a run of games.
quick to write him off? really? he’ll have been here for five years in january, and for much of that time he’s either never been fit or able to play adequately in his natural position. i’m not saying he isn’t very talented and i’m not saying he’s not had very good performances, but he’s not getting in ahead of the glut of talented right-wingers we have at the moment and he’s consistently shown that he isn’t good enough defensively to play right back. i wouldn’t say that any of those observations are overly hasty judgements.

The overreaction is ludicrous. Last night his pace and delivery created the best chance for us before we did actually score our two goals, one of which he actually scored himself. He wasn’t at fault for the first goal despite what people are saying and yes he could have been stronger for the second but it does not merit this level of criticism.
Indeed. Looked very dangerous when he came forward and put in some great crosses. Also created Ferguson's goal on Saturday.

Totally unsuited. The only place he can play is wide.
He's got all the attributes to be a class cdm. He's great on the ball, agile, quick and a decent defender. He'd have to spend along time learning the role, but it's better than wasting his skill on the bench as a rb.

I can, elements of the fanbase have become entitled and must have a scapegoat for every result.

He wasn’t great defensively but not many RB / RWB’s have a goal and an assist in their last two games. We simply are not using him correctly and playing to his Strengths.

It was pretty obvious they were targeting our right hand side, why didn’t we proactively react to this after the first?

Hes best as an Impact sub against tired legs down either wing or even through the middle

The first goal - same scenario but Baleba is playing the holding role as opposed to Moder - I suspect with Baleba playing, that situation may have panned out differently, but like most sides in the Premier League, they and we treat the Carabao Cup in the early rounds as game time for squad players. It's the end of October - we've been beaten once in the League and once in the Cup ;-)

Our last three managers don’t agree. None of them have ever played him in that role. Tariq is a great guy who will always do his best out wide. He will never play a PL match in CDM. Solly has the same attributes and will also never play CDM. It is an incredibly hard position to play. Tariq plays where his pace is best used.

Except he's tiddly and would get muscled off the ball every time he has it. There is also much less space to run in the centre than out wide, and that's his real strength. If people complained about Gilmour getting dominated by physical opposition, imagine Lamptey!

Kante was small but strong. Lamptey is small and agile, but not strong.

Maybe his best position is as wing back when playing 3 centre-backs? That was the case at beginning of 20-21 when he was at his best, wasn’t it?

I don’t understand why Hinshelwood hasn’t been played at RB this season. I thought he was our best option there last season before he got injured.

He's an attacking wing back right? If we played three at the back as we often did under Potter then he would be great 3-4-3 though is defensively frail or frail going forward with a midfield that gets overrun - 3-5-2 and we can't find a role for arguably our best players. It's tough. That little nudge forward into the Liverpool area and cross for Adingra was a joy to see. Like watching him tear Chelsea apart a few years ago. There's a player in there for sure. If Weiffer wasn't so "debatable" it would be easy to suggest 4-4-3 in possession and have him drop into the three out - but at best the Jury's out on him. Hopefully Fab will be tactically flexible and Lamptey has some opportunities to shine
