He wasn’t elected to serve the electorate and living on our taxes.

There is a difference.

If we are going to start saying there’s bad people in all walks of life the list will be endless and you might as well say that MPs don’t need to behave according to a higher standard of conduct than any other tom, Dick and Harry.

Would we be making this much fuss over a physical assault if it was just Gazza the mechanic from the local garage losing his shlt down the local on a Friday night?
He's a KC , personally expect that he should be setting an example, same with police.

Yes but you don’t honestly think that is the same as someone elected to Parliament to represent the public surely?

We don’t put the trust of running the Country into the hands of taxation lawyers.

My next door neighbour growing up was a QC - affairs, drunken parties, ran off with a younger woman in the end but he’s still a KC now … their behaviour is not under the same kind of microscope.

At least amend the title of this thread to reflect that it is not just about Mike Amesbury but also about Aaron Bell .😳

Why does it make anyone feel better to tell another poster how to do a thread that they started or how to post on any thread for that matter. Does it really effect you in any way?

I think MPs should be held to the very closest scrutiny as should members of the Lords to the point that the former (and maybe the latter) should be assessed on what they say they will do so that when someone says they are going to recruit 20k nurses then they are held accountable for it , flippant promises cost lives of the poor and sick and that is true of election promises. If you bought something of a salesman which was then found to be blatantly untrue then you would be entitled to legal recompense and they might be charged under trades description. Politicians ( also councillors ?) would then possibly stop promising the earth.

Anything to do with the law then forms the second tier of accountability, they are their to support the structure of society both the government and the individual and corruption of this threatens to undermine our society. So IMO they too should be under close scrutiny.

The most curious thing..
There is an unsubstantiated story locally that Amesbury was being / had been (?) threatened with something highly unpleasant at the time of the incident, although the originator of this story has provided no details or other information other than they had enhanced the original video with an AI tool to access the conversation immediately prior to the punch.

Whether that is true or possible is anyone's guess at present.

Frodsham is usually a very quiet village, especially at 3.00am.

Profumo scandal in the 1960s (Defence Minister who slept with 'call-girl' who was also sleeping with a Soviet diplomat, a major national security risk). Profumo exacerbated his treachery by lying in the House of Commons, initially denying any relationship with the call-girl.
George Brown often seriously/offensively drunk, as Foreign Secretary, at meetings with foreign ambassadors, diplomats and leaders mid-1960s.
John Stonehouse 'faking' his own death in mid-70s and creating a new identity to escape major debts.
Cecil Parkinson getting his secretary, Sara Keays, pregnant in the mid-80s, while Thatcher was preaching 'family values' and the sanctity of marriage.
Alan Clark sleeping with the wife of a South African High Court Judge and the two daughters in the mid-80s (family values of a kind, I guess!).
Ron Brown prosecuted for criminal damage late 1980s.
Several Tory MPs blackmailed into voting for Maastricht Treaty ratification in 1993 (whips threatened to reveal dirty secrets about their private lives if they didn't)
Peter Mandelson resigned twice as a Cabinet Minister under Blair due to serious irregularities over his conduct and financial dealings.
Chris Huhne imprisoned for 'perverting the course of justice' in 2003 (claimed his wife was driving, in order to avoid penalty points for speeding)
Several MPs involved in fraudulent expenses claims 2009 ('cleaning moats and duck pond'!).
Neil Parrish caught watching porn on his phone in the House of Commons, in the presence of disgusted women MPs, 2022.

Not sure that bad behaviour has actually increased, rather 24/7 media, social media, smartphones (covertly filming bad behaviour) and CCTV all makes us more aware of it, and it's 'good' media headlines or stories; the public love being shocked by a scandal.
So not very many people over the last 60 years.

I think you are getting your list a little out of proportion.

I'm not aware that John Profumo was ever accused of treason. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Profumo_affair

Quite rightly - there are some utterly tragic tales where people have died having taken a single punch, often suffering severe trauma when their head crashes onto concrete or similar.

One Punch UK are involved in this area in this country.

SOme people get on a firm trampoline with bungees round the side wearing giant mittens and do this for fun . . . Some of them get paid.

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
"Appearing to punch" ????? Unreal. Did anyone at the beeb actually watch the video? Daft muppets.
It is subjudice going to court so the ‘beeb’ isn’t going to compromise a fair trial.

Yep. I read there are loads of fairly f***ed-up and vulnerable people, including women, who are on jail sentences as brief as 2 weeks. Utterly pointless, as they lose what job they may have had, and often become homeless as a consequence, and are back inside on some other low grade act of tomfoolery in the space of weeks. All part of the previous government's 'tough stance'. Sadly it will cost a lot of money to 'support' vulnerable low grade persistent criminals. A discussion for another place and time, but one that needs to be had.
Send them to Northern France and provide dinghies for them to return? Free accommodation and living expenses will ease their pain.

Sorry, you've lost me. I'm sure you have a point but I can only guess what it may be

IIRC there has to be a conviction before recall rules kick in, unless the Commons votes for an exclusion for 28 days
