Good grief are you STILL wanging on?
Really, i thought my £5 subs included that facilityThere is nothing more than I would like than to put him on ignore. Unfortunately we cannot put Moderators on ignore.
I would happily pay the £5 and frequently support many of the suggestions brought up on NSC, but I cannot...and will not....pay £5 a month while he is a moderator.Really, i thought my £5 subs included that facility
Well, in an attempt to respond to the repeated demand, and also to self-educate a bit, I've been looking at this. The OBR provide a nice overview here:
A brief guide to the public finances - Office for Budget Responsibility
The independent Office for Budget Responsibility was established in 2010 to monitor the public sector’s finances. Twice a year – usually alongside each Budget and Spring or Autumn Statement – we produce detailed forecasts for the coming five years, assessing the likely impact of any policy...obr.uk
Labour have ruled out rises to 57% of receipts - income tax, NI and VAT. Unhelpfully, the next two biggest slices of the pie are the opaque "Other taxes" and "other receipts". I'd need a breakdown of those as I literally have no idea what makes up the combined £247bn. Presumably, there's some scope for some rises somewhere in there.
I'm surprised that corporation tax is as low as it is - less than 9% of government income. So, let's go after those fat cats for a bit more, just not the small one-man-bands, please.

Sorry, yes. It’s not from a low Corp Tax rate, it’s now on the mid to higher side in Western economies, Tories upped it 6% to 25%. With effectively 19% or 26.5% for low profit companies. Care has to be taken because multinationals can and do relocate their European head offices to tax havens such as Ireland.
Bozza does the best he can with this forum. I don't doubt that at all.Imho support Bozza. GB is going nowhere. We get great value out of nsc.
I was told the same only yesterday, among some other tasty titbits of Westminster gossip and plotting....he genuinely won’t see out his first term as PM
Nope, it’s in plain site for all to see, he’ll be gone by Easter and T’ Ginger Growler will be 1ICI was told the same only yesterday, among some other tasty titbits of Westminster gossip and plotting.
Have you been tapping up my source

I'm aware of others who feel the same about Guinness Boy.
Worst EVER Moderator on NSC.
I do object to his "directness"...( I prefer to call it outright bullying due to his status as a Moderator on here.)Genuinely, I don’t mind his directness. Usually. A helpful ally when eg some people tried to shutdown debate during Potter’s reign.
There’d be far, far worse candidates for mod, who’d turn a lot of folk off.
You more than hold your own btw.
Mmmm...interesting. Was discussing the very same thing with someone close to these things during a long walk yesterday. They didn't suggest a date and would have laughed out loud if I'd suggested next Easter. But certainly within the next 2 years is not being dismissed as outlandish. Besides, it may be in certain people's interest to let him and RR get all the really shit and unpopular stuff out of the way first. Mightn't it?Nope, it’s in plain site for all to see, he’ll be gone by Easter and T’ Ginger Growler will be 1IC
That is wrong Running a small business is not easy. Many when deciding whether to try and expand and employ a youngster hold back because cost will be £20k plus. So much better for all when able to employ on low wage for initial trial period. Appreciate he could afford it but my son triedI’d suggest if a business can only afford to pay minimum wage and can’t pass on a small increase it’s probably not a great business.
Unfreeze fuel duty. It's been a huge subsidy for gas guzzlers mainly owned by rich people, which oil companies and fuel retailers (including the big supermarkets) have used to maximise profits. It has been encouraging more driving thereby maintaining surface transport's share of carbon emissions.Where do you suggest the tax intake rises to pay for it?
Yes - but look at some of the above posts. Fuel duty rise is being portrayed by some as a rise in taxes on working people, as it equates to VAT and other such taxes. That's the thing really - what's the trade off, which are more acceptable, which won't breach the manifesto promise?Unfreeze fuel duty. And then when they might need someone else in the future do they give the minimum wager they hired earlier a pay rise, or hire another body on minimum wage? I didn't read all of them, sorry. But it wasn't one of the 4 'taxes' mentioned, so it has to be in scope and reinstating it passes one of the supposed basic rules of taxation, that you tax the bad things and subsidise the good things.Yes - but look at some of the above posts.
