Worthing
Replying to your first sentence - Chris Hughton did a wonderful job to get us promoted to the Premier League and then enabled us to survive in our first season. Our second season, 2018/19, was a case of us not being relegated because there were three teams worse than us, just. Our survival was down to Crystal Palace, our only win from January to May was at Selhurst Park and Palace overturned Cardiff late on to enable us to survive four points clear before we played Man City in the final game, we lost 4-1 and Cardiff won but were relegated. In the end we escaped demotion by two points.

Much as I like Chris Hughton I feel in that 2018/19 season he’d run out of ideas on how to take the team forward. It got progressively worse with some awful performances. Southampton 0-1, Bournemouth 0-5, Cardiff 0-2, all in short order at home. Then you had Wolves 0-0 and Spurs 0-1 both away where Albion fans got dog’s abuse for the way the team played in parking the proverbial ten buses. So yes, we survived but Chris didn’t as the writing had been on the wall for some time.
Yes, fair summarisation, but if you recall the first 3 months of his last season we’d done well initially, given the poor signings in that era. Locadia, AJ etc..
Wolves away, we actually started with the 11 from the previous season (17/18), with no summer signings (appreciate it was at the end of the season), but that is an indictment on the quality we’d signed during summer 18.

But the 0-0 at Wolves, park the bus, call it what you like, got us over the line and was necessary. Without that we wouldn’t have evolved to where we are.

As we are witnessing the first 2 seasons are really challenging for promoted teams.

I think he had so many options he didn’t know which one to take… a bit like when a player has a cross/ shot which ends up as neither
I reckon this has a lot to do with it. If he'd had one player to pick out, he probably would have done. Or if he'd had nothing on, he would have taken it to the corner. An embarrassment of riches really.

I can’t understand why Pervis is not coming under scrutiny on here. He was needlessly bombing forward and a simple pass left him hopelessly out of position and left Igor isolated. What was he thinking? View attachment 191287
Cheers not seen this angle yet and I was just starting the get over it. Nope! Truly shocking

Good observation.

Its a bit like me when I drive into a big empty carpark. I drive around in total indecision as to where to park, and when I do finally decide, I end up parking over the lines.

And going for a pub meal where there is too much on the menu instead of just which pie to have with your chips.

He was shocking in the first half against Everton (I was there so saw it with my own eyes). By far our worst player on the day. Only settled down in second half when they had 10 men.
Agree. He was very shaky that day. First half he looked a bag of nerves. He game away the ball before the Dunk ‘penalty’ which was overturned.
It seems as if he is taking his time to get up to the speed of the Premier League and I think his confidence is low.
He needs time to adapt.

I’m old enough to remember Terry Connor coming to the Albion. In the first few weeks of his time here he was pretty awful. Couldn’t seem to control the ball and did nothing of note.
Next season he turned into our player of the season. He never stopped working hard and was a fans favourite. Great attitude to turn things around. I’ve never seen such a turn round in a player.
Players can take time to adapt and it takes hard work and mental strength to do it.
Vitriol from fans won’t help the process.

Second season syndrome too. There were rumours flying around during the latter part of the season. Firstly, senior members of the squad approached Hughton requesting that they change tactics and style of play - that was rejected. Secondly, players out on the lash until all hours before games. Again, I stress, that these were rumours, but with any team playing badly all sorts of allegations come to the fore. Fortunately, as a club we have progressed and are now in a much better place.

Perhaps we, as fans, can give Mats the same support as we did with Solly after his penalty miss in the Cup semifinal. We are a very forgiving lot when pinch comes to shove.
If March wasn’t a local lad and we had paid millions for him I don’t think the forgiving wouldn’t be so forgiving. Crap player who knocked us out of two cups with the exact same shit pens would be more like it.

Oh, the same crap player who scored wonder goals against Southampton and Liverpool? Regardless of where they come from or how much they cost they are still Brighton players and deserve our support. Still, don’t be too hard on yourself if you cock things up eh?

Think you may misread what I meant or it was badly worded by me. I meant it’s a pass a professional footballer should complete. He didn’t have to make it and if play was paused and he looked at where he was how far out of position our players would be if the pass wasn’t completed he would have made a different choice. I’d rather he was safe with the ball in the 93rd minute when we have a slender lead. That’s just me others will think differently. But if he had kept the ball won a throw or a corner or committed Doyle by driving towards goal and then playing it square we would have got 3 points.

Well luckily for Matt he has professionals around him. Players like Welbeck who have played the game at the top level will pop arm around him and try lift his spirits. You think he will be changing in the corridor because he misplaced a pass because that’s what you did in semi professional Holland then your wrong.
As for a public apology that may be the stupidest comment I’ve read, and you come across a self important prick.
I wasn't actually going to justify this with a response, hence my laughing reaction to your post.

Great for him, because Fabian certainly didn't talk to him after the game.

I am more than sure when everyone turned up this morning there were plenty of arms round him, but I promise you, in those moments after the game a couple would have asked if he was alright, but everyone else is not in the mood to check on him. He would have walked into that changing room with 20+ faces absolutely fuming at him. Of course, I've made mistakes both on and off the pitch but I can only imagine you haven't played football if you think anyone was being kind to him in that changing room.

Mats is 24, he's not inexperienced on the pitch. He's not a Enciso, he's not a Baleba. He's a starting Dutch international. Rightly so, the press over here have picked up on it.

Regarding the public apology; a simple 'I hold my hands up, I'll make up for it' on Instagram where he is all very active would make a lot of people move on.

And your last sentence is frankly, completely unnecessary for a message board between Brighton fans. Plenty of people on this board will vouch otherwise, who know and have met me in real life including helping stranded supporters in Amsterdam and returning forgotten stuff from Marseille despite my location. I'm sure you wouldn't say this in real to me or anyone so I can only presume you had a bad Sunday morning. (y)

No, no, no. He’s made a mistake and will be pilloried as ‘dogshit’ for the rest of eternity, surely ?

Maybe he ignored them talking to him about tactics as they were all pissed?

People focussing far too much on the MW mistake. It’s unfortunate for him that he will symbolise the dropped points but it’s not his fault we drew from 2-0 in the 87th minute. We need to be far more resilient and controlled at the back and we’re lucky Chelsea didn’t score 6 or 7, lucky Man U didn’t score 3 or 4 and lucky Newcastle hadn’t won the game by half time.

Yes, it’s football, but early in to this season we have failed to beat Ipswich, Forest and Wolves at home (6 dropped points), and didn’t Wolves do nearly EXACTLY THE SAME thing in the league cup…like nearly exactly the same? None of this is Weiffers fault.
