Watching earlier today and just wondered at the start of the day do they announce crowd changes

#pisspoorcrowd
I would imagine that many folk are working there. It's not the same as for us here. There was a fair crowd behind the camera too.

That said, Test cricket is not what it was. We have to accept that. But I'll be clinging on the boat until it goes down.

Don't we have many folks working here during test matches? What's the cultural issue I'm missing?

Don't get me wrong I love test cricket too :)

I did wonder that perhaps folk have to work harder and longer in those parts. Taking time out to watch a Test match wouldn't be such a thing. There was an influx after tea.

Ben Stokes has been a hero for England on many occasions but his captaincy yesterday was poor.
Pakistan were 161-6 , still over 100 runs behind, and instead of going for the kill, Stokes' let them off the hook with his fielding positions.
They were able to milk the singles without any pressure, and build a first innings lead when they should have been behind.

How much has the doctored pitch played a part in this and how much England's refusal to actually build individual test innings.
Pakistan made 344 after losing the (apparently very important) toss.
I'd say having an attack mostly made up of people learning how to bowl along with one bloke who it seems we have very little faith married to a batting line up where only Root can dig in played a part

And Stokes was out playing no shot to a straight ball. Most England players have zero technique against spin, that's one area where Bazball fails.

Some very poor batting from England. Getting ready for another Ashes surrender perhaps.

Very disappointing and half-arsed display, wickets literally being gifted to Pakistan, it’s like they couldn’t be bothered to give it a proper go.

It's not Bazball that's failing there, we're not just as good against spin regardless of what style we try to play.

Hard to know what to make of this tour really. These tours they (all countries) disappear on without any warm up games in country before the tests are always going to be a bit of a lottery.

Saying that NZ are about to win a tour in India which is a huge achievement.

Agreed. But the Bazball approach must compound the problem. You can't be treating spin bowling with the respect it deserves, especially in the subcontinent, whilst simultaneously trying to score at 6 runs an over. The number of recent 'bowled out in under 40 overs' instances says a lot.

From the BBC

Three times in the last four matches, England have been bowled out in under 40 overs.

It happened only three times between July 1909 and June 1981 - in which time England played 466 Tests.
That’s really dire when you put it bare like that.

NZ have beaten India and won the series. Santner took 6 wickets in the 2nd innings to go with 7 in the first. In his 28 tests he'd never taken more than 3 before

India's last home series defeat would have been against England during the modern glory years.

It does seem that Test series go the way of home teams more than ever. England lose very few. Pakistan have been the anomaly really, so I suppose we should be pleased for them really. Although England have let themselves down a bit
