Yeah, Patreon is a platform where, typically, people support creators with regular payments.
It's not really different to what we are doing here, but Xenforo has it all built-in to move users to different groups etc, which means I don't have to monitor it and make manual changes.
I took the suggestion from @Chicken Run above, but people should be called Patrons, really, not Patreons. I'll change it now!

A shameless bump as a long-term NSCer told me they'd only become aware of this for the first time today.

A bounce for this, for a couple of reasons...
Firstly - a massive thanks to all those who have directly supported NSC over the last year. It's a massive help in funding the site. In the last year, we had to move to a more expensive hosting package because of the massiveness of over 20 years worth of stuff. On the plus side, the new package is higher-powered so site performance also improved a little bit.
Additionally, the funding meant I was able to continue to pay for a website security service that monitors NSC 24/7, flags any security issues and escalates them to a team to provide mitigation actions.
Secondly - it's approaching a year since people first started supporting NSC directly. A handful of people made an annual payment, and these are set to renew - Paypal will automatically take the money again. I just wanted to flag this in case any annual payers want to cancel - you'll need to do this within your Paypal account.
I don't want anyone to face hardship because they forgot that the payment was going to be taken.
However, if your renewal goes before you are able to cancel, please get in touch. It goes without saying, of course, that I would refund anyone who asked for their money back - no questions asked.
Finally, I fully appreciate that most people can't or don't want to support NSC directly in this way. Life is expensive and there's a lot better things to spend money on than this ridiculous website. But if you do keep ads displaying on NSC, or remember to click to Amazon via NSC when you buy something then you're absolutely doing your bit to help keep the lights on - and I massively appreciate that too.
