There's a certain darkness about it. It's probably intentional, what with it being about murders, and a lot of it is filmed at night, or in churches, or the gloomy police station.

I'm trying to think what it reminds me of. It was something made to give the feel of the fifties, slightly other-worldly.

I've only watched one so far, but it's decent enough. It's the television equivalent of Richard Osman's books.

More comedy than gritty procedural.

I find it an easy watch as it has relatively straight forward plots and it is along the same lines as 'the Chelsea detective' starring Adrian Scarborough that I have been streaming via 'U'

It reminds me of Life on Mars.. it’s pretty ridiculous, but in a brilliant way… no time travel/afterlife/purgatory but it has an offbeat element that LOM had in spades…

Think I might dig out LOM and watch it again, for the awesome soundtrack if nothing else, oh and Gene Hunt obviously.

Not sure how anyone can dislike Mitchell… he’s brilliant at what he does…

Finally got round to watching this. Utterly preposterous plot with more holes in it than a cheese grater. You have to ‘go with it’ and accept it on its own terms or you’ll end up shouting at the TV about one about one ludicrous twist after another.

I loved it. Harmless fun with a decent plot that keeps you interested. A good 8/10 and I’m looking forward to a second series.

I like a good TV detective drama series but this was way too Mr Bean for me.

Just not my cuppa tea ....

I liked it. But then I also like Mitchell and the woman out of Motherland.

Btw, I read a review of it in the Financial Times and couldn't believe how harsh it was. It's decent viewing IMO.

With all that said, I could see Ludwig proving a hit. We are – as the runaway success of shows such as Death in Paradise suggests – a nation that seemingly cannot get enough of whimsical, innocuous crime procedurals. (Ludwig screenwriter Mark Brotherhood has in fact previously written for Death in Paradise and Father Brown.) Sometimes you want a puzzle you just don’t have to think about – and as escapist pap goes, you could do worse than this.

We watched the first episode and have the next three recorded and ready to watch (been really busy recently). I found the first half of the first episode really dull as it set up the premise, and almost gave up like you did, but once it got going, it was easy going, interesting and fun. Looking forward to the rest now that the initial exposition is out the way.

Very "ish". It's much better than that. Cleverer humour I'd say. But you really do need to like David Mitchell in the same way you needed to like Alan Davies. Although Caroline Quentin was an added bonus.

David Mitchell is not doing any acting - it's him.

Mrs ROSM and I are enjoying this. We like Death in Paradise too. Sometimes after a tough day it's fun to just have an hour of light entertainment. Not everything has to be 'line of duty' esque

It’s a cartoonish, painting-by-numbers whodunnit. All a bit My First Crypytic Crossword. But you have to go with it, if you can. Once you start saying things like "Hold on, no police officer would ever do that", you’re in danger of getting derailed from the spirit of it. If you can let it wash over you it’s perfectly palatable MOTR viewing with plenty of mild chuckles to help you along. As others have said, David Mitchell plays himself so much depends on whether he drives you nuts or not.
