The dull part of the south coast
Not sure when but "How?" is the main people who start chants chose to do it, and "Why?" is because Liverpool did it and we have always been massive plagiarists.
Plagiarists? Same as every other club’s fans. Even Liverpool fans, it was Celtic’s lot that started ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

I think we’re safe with GOSBTS.

It really wasn't. Liverpool fans first started singing it in 1963 when Gerry and the Pacemakers released it. Celtic fans have never been known for their love of Rogers and Hammerstein musicals, but (along with everyone else) picked up on it later.

I miss the 70s, when the chants were much more complex and often unique to each club. This old marching song was sung as a 'call and response' (one person singing each line, which is then repeated by the crowd). There were loads of different 'verses', but these are the ones I remember.

Go left, go left
Go left, right, left
Go left, go right
Go pick up your steps
Go left, go right, go left

He shot, he scored
It must be our Peter Ward

Go left, go left
Go left, right, left
Go left, go right
Go pick up your steps
Go left, go right, go left

Can you hear the Palace sing?
I can't hear a f**king thing.

Go left, go left
Go left, right, left
Go left, go right
Go pick up your steps
Go left, go right, go left

Have you seen the Muppet Show?
It's on at Selhurst Park you know

Go left, go left
Go left, right, left
Go left, go right
Go pick up your steps
Go left, go right, go left

And so we tell 'em
We are the famous
The famous Brighton
So f**k off Palace
Or you will die

You will die, you will die, you will die...

At some stage, the fast-paced "albion albion albion" [x10] of the north stand at the Goldstone was replaced by the current, deary, slow-paced "aaal-beee-eurgghn, aaal-beee-eurgghn" drudge. How, when and why did that happen?
Surely wouldn't be impossible to bring back that mindless but far more energetic version? The current one is dreary to almost catatonic.

Yes, you’re right Liverpool did start YNWA as their anthem. Celtic fans apparently adopted it in 1966 after hearing it at Anfield when they played Liverpool in ECWC - some Celtic fans insist they were the first. Oh well.

This one was definitely getting some outings at away games during the AMEX Championship years

For some reason I was reminscing (with myself) about Richie Barker songs yesterday.

The two I remember are "Barker the Bear" (Rupert the Bear style) and "Oo ah, Richie Bar-kar" (French national anthem/Eric Cantona style). Seem to remember that one generating a polite ripple of applause one quiet day at Priestfield.
Barker was so bad, amongst the worst players to have ever worn the stripes. Terrible. Absolutely terrible.

From the Goldstone days there was a period when second half last twenty minutes of every game “Attack Attack- attack attack attack “ over and over used to make the hairs on my head rise when the north stand started and it appeared to make the team really go for it
"Fanny around at the back, fanny around at the back - fanny around at the back, etc" doesn't have quite the same ring about it!

(However - that's so last season I guess, we're not doing it so much this year).

I still miss Ulloa's song.
That was quality.... at the City ground after he scored the injury time winner to get us in the play offs, the sound of that chant was deafening.

Last seasons, "We've got super Rob De Zerbi" sent tingles after Joao Pedros last minute winner V Marseille.

"You're going home in a Sussex Ambulence" used to be decent.......... until the away fans knew the ambulence would take over 3 hours, so ignored.
