It's poor PR from the Tories - there are plenty of people who will suffer from this change - did they not think of portraying them instead of ones that open them up to these sorts of comments?

It just shows how inept the PR and advisers on both the Labour and Conservatives sides are.
Unbelievable really.

It is poor PR by the Tories but it's relatively trivial compared to the PR by Labour, which I've been somewhat astonished by in the past month or two. The WFP was so poorly handled, and they've hardly been on the front foot about freebies, and have squandered considerable post-election good will, giving the usual suspects the opportunity to tarnish them with they're all the same brush.

Tassimo lattes = quite nice. Kenco powdered lattes = tasteless gunk. Just saying.

Although I only buy the Americano XL now as they went from 8 a pack to 6 a pack on the latte ones and kept the price the same.

It's almost if they have got interns on the social media team, they don't understand how important it is in 2024

I don't think our two major parties have any idea on how to use social media, which is a worry, the stuff they tweet out is just dumb and poorly timed.

Lib Dem's and Reform seem to have been nailing it for the past year or so.

Switched my dad from a price cap tariff to a 12m fix yesterday, will save him around £200 per year. He won't miss the WFA at all. Still bemused by the way the govt have handled this though.

I think it’s pretty good PR to be honest.

They are appealing to their core at the moment. They are in the middle of a leadership contest. They are not trying to convince the general public at the moment. Reasonably wealthy pensioners moaning about the WFP is exactly who they are trying to appeal to at the moment.

If you think the Tory membership gives a flying ‘F’ about pensioners who either don’t have the agency to claim the payment or fall just on the wrong side of it, you are mistaken. It’s actually all about affording Kenco coffee rather than Aldi own brand.

They’d tell you that they have worked hard all their lives, why shouldn’t they get the same payment as other less well off pensioners who have obviously not worked as hard or saved for the future?

I think the Tories are smart enough to change the narrative once the Leadership election is over but for now, they are appealing to the sort of voter who thought having Liz Truss as PM was a idea because of tax cuts. They look after No.1.
