So don't claim it's been debunked, it's true that he said it.

Obviously people take the piss (because he's an idiot, his advice is beyond stupid, and it's funny) and say 'oh my god he's telling people to drink bleach', which is not what he said (and not what Zeberdi or I claimed), but he did say about injecting disinfectant into people's bodies, which would not remove covid until it killed the patient.

Yeah, that's at 2.38pm, after the violence had started. And the people already rioting in the Capitol weren't reading Twitter at that point.

So - the tweet was AFTER they were in the Capitol, and AFTER the violence...... That completely contradicts what you said had happened timeline wise. Do you agree?

Regarding the speech, you need to listen to what he actually said, and in the context of what else he said at the same speech.

The bit I guess you are referring to is "I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard." Now - that isn't exactly telling them to behave peacefully is it. He doesn't say 'behave peacefully'. And then after telling a lot of lies about the ballots, he ended up by telling them "And we fight. We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore.". In a speech, which bit do you go away with uppermost in your minds - a sentence about a fifth of the way in, or the sentences at the end?

We’re currently on holiday in central Pennsylvania , around here the seems to be little support for Kamala Harris. We spent Saturday night and most of Sunday in New Jersey, the sentiment there seemed similar. We’ve tried to avoid the conversation as much as we can, I get the feeling that they don’t necessarily want trump, but they absolutely don’t want Harris. The TV campaign adverts are stunningly frank, and there are even a couple with republicans saying that they can’t support trump. It’s a mess 😕.

Sadly a reflection of where things are nationally over all. Neck and neck or with both parties within margin of error of winning or losing.

Harris isn’t going to make any headway in the 4 weeks left either according to political analysts I’ve read.

In Penn the biggest voting block is the older voters (50+) and she is trailing Trump significantly with the top issue for older voters being the economy..

It’s going to be a tossup up in the largest swing state - I wouldn’t be surprised to see a recount and Trump causing lots of controversy around the result if he loses.

I'll make the mistake of taking this semi-seriously

Obviously, like most on here, I don't have a vote, so clearly I have no 'legitimate reason' for voting for Harris.
However...

It's hard to really know from a distance what each person stands for. Campaigning in the US appears to be less about explaining policy and ideology and more about making the same speech, over and over again, which is mainly about how bad the other candidate is plus some big 'whoop yeah' bits to stir things up. And if you want 'broad brush' reasons, about American values of inclusion and equal opprtunity, then Mr Springsteen (see above) has summed it up better than I ever could.

In terms of specifics though, what I do happen to know, from people that pay more attention and are more involved than me, is two things:

1. Harris takes a strong position on workers rights. Stronger than Biden, who was already (suprisingy) stronger than previous Democrats. So if you are are a working person in the US, and want protection for basic rights, like the right to organize, decent pay, security etc then that would be a very good reason to vote Harris

2. Any chance of long term peace in the middle east relies on a diplomatic solution, based on a two-state agreement. And America is key to achieving that. It still seems highly unlikely in the near future but, despite having to tread a careful line, Harris has put herself in a far far better position than Trump to be able to take that forward with any legitimacy.

So there's a couple of 'legitimate' reasons at least why you might want to vote Harris if you are in a position to do so.

Unfortunately you are wrong. It is going to be extremely close and it will come down to small amounts of votes making a difference in each battleground state. If the Dems don't get out every voter possible, especially in Georgia and North Carolina where Hurricane Helene just hit and the infrastructure for voting may not even be in place by election day in less than a month Harris could lose even though she has more of the popular vote.

It's pretty simple, Biden and now Harris are awful awful options as well.

If Trump gets in it's because the Dems didn't pull Biden sooner/Harris was the replacement, any one decent would be miles ahead in the polls.

Only seen clips of it, but Harris interview on CBS seemed painful.

People see Trump as a slightly less awful option.

Just as an aside, I really hope there will be a time that politics goes back to being about people who want to do the work rather than people who want to make a fortune and become famous for being famous and in a position of power with no appreciation for it, understanding of it or passion to use it for positive outcomes.

All joking aside, the Biden presidency has been historically successful in terms of passing legislation and making a real impact in people's lives. That doesn't mean to say it's been universally positive, obviously it hasn't been because it's the real world and not the West Wing. But history will clearly remember the Biden presidency as successful and a positive return to the norms of competency after the chaos and catastrophe of Trump.

Except that's not what's coming over when she's interviewed is it ?

She can be a highly accomplished woman and be completely ill suited to being the president.
