It needs to end. How would you solve this pandemic if you were given free hands?

NOTHING and I mean abso-fvcking-lootley NOT ONE THING beats a great sing and dance along with Freed from Desire after beating Spuds 3-2 from 0-2 down at HT.

Nothing.

Nada.

Zip.

Sweet FA.

Jack shit.

And if you don't agree, IDGAF.

As long as you have fun its all good :) I'm sure I would enjoy it too.

Singing along to a pop song played on a PA system would never be part of how I see football culture though. Bit like goal music and cheerleaders.

Good thing I guess that it wasn't "Crazy Frog", "Macarena" or "I'm Blue" that randomly made comeback as a fad. But I guess thats next.

It was a good bouncy one last night. Strangely enough seemingly not captured by that video.

I always laugh at the pensioners trying to sing along to the words. Like it's GOSBTS.

I thought it was just accepted that you just wait for the beat then bounce around a bit.

Freed From Desire was great when that Wigan (?) fan came up with the Will Grigg words that got the ball rolling. The lyrics make zero sense in a football context otherwise - almost as bad as Sweet Caroline - though the chorus is a belting singalong. But it would be dead easy to adapt for the boss (just by rushing his surname a bit as people do naturally anyway). In the wake of a win, would actually give us a song for him, nicking one line from the Grigg version:

Fab-ee-an Hurz-ler
Take us on a crazy ride
Fab-ee-an Hurz-ler
Your defence is terrified*

*(the opposition defence obviously, though it could refer to ours as well quite a lot of the time so possibly some pointing at the away fans is in order for clarification)

Ooh... na na na na na na na na na na na naaaah .. etc, until the end of time...

What a fitting end to a great game, enjoyed every minute of it, the song that is, not the 45 minutes of torture and 45 minutes of footballing genius!

Surely you're aware of the song's history? Used as a chant by Wigan fans ("Will Griggs on fire") which was then adopted in some form by most other clubs. It's a football chant in its own right, the same as Sloop John B or Go West.

And in my opinion, it's also one of the greatest. It ticks all the boxes of being a great English football anthem: adaptable to many situations; easy to learn; and possible to dance to even if you don't know the words.

It's turning into a quintessential English football anthem, and it will be around for many, many years to come. With each passing year that happens, this thread is going to look more and more out of touch.

Yes, I am aware of it. Someone took the melody and made a song out of it, a with many songs, and used it to make a player specific song. Thats well done.
Putting the original on on the PA system for a sing-a-long... like I said, I'm sure its fun, and it might be English football culture, but that part of the whole thingie will never be my kind of football culture simply because its a million miles different from what I'm used to. Bit like singing or chanting throughout a game is considered "tinpot" in England if the team "doesn't deserve it", but is the standard in Sweden.

Different cultures. If someones crowd would make the most amount of noice when the sound system original versions of Crazy Frog, Freed From Desire or I'm Blue were played, they would quite simply be the laughing stock of every other supporter base.

When I made this thread I wasn't aware how personally and emotionally invested people were in this random fecking 90s one hit wonder. It was a misjudgement obviously as many have expressed its the best thing to ever happen in football etc. Again, we don't have that here. We will never have "listening to this tune on the PA once or twice a month is the best thing that happened to Swedish supporter culture" here - its completely unthinkable - so I made a misjudgement and thought it could be a funny thread about the endless repeating of this song in all kinds of uber-commercialised sports contexts.

Mods can feel free to remove the topic a I really don't give much of a shit... you can keep your song and your culture, I neither want or intend to change it or absorb it

….and yet you started a thread on it….i’m not sure you will ever get the feeling of being a supporter at a game and the joy of your team winning the match…especially yesterdays circumstances and the other home win against MU

In the words of Kevin Keegan ... "I will love it" ... if this "random fecking 90s one hit wonder" was played at the end of EVERY game at the Amex. Because we all know what that means.

It’s just part of the shithousery. Spurs fans filing out miserably after a game they should have won and the last thing they see and hear is us bouncing around to a shitty pop tune like a MILF who’s had too many skittle bombs.

I find this a bit of a strange comment. I can see why some people dont like Freed from desire, but to say we can keep our(football) culture, and you niether want, or intend to change to absorb it-then WTF are you here? The whole coming back and winning from a hopeless position, and the sheer joy that brings, and expressing it by bouncing along to a crap song with thousands of other people is the entire point of supporting a football club

Id agree that on TV it doesn't carry the same emotion as being there- but seeing 5 yr old kids, middle-aged men, and people in their 80s all together bouncing in the simple joy of having watched something remarkable is unlike anything else
Somethings about football are still about the fans in the stadium, and not for TV, this is one of them, along with Sweet Caroline and chanting the referee's a wanker.

You can't understand why football fans sing a football anthem after a match? If Crazy Frog turned into a football anthem I'm sure we'd also sing that after a game. But it hasn't. So we don't.
