[Football] A nod to Aston Villa

I know this is not usually a "thing" but I feel it worth congratulating Aston Villa and Unai Emery for their great result the other night.
Whilst Brighton got most of the attention when RDZ joined Unai was quietly improving his Villa team. No massive signings, or at least by today's standards, in a fact a squad of players whom I, when put on the spot, failed to name one. Last season when RDZ took his eye off the ball and allowed our team to slowly fall down the league, AV were going the other way up to 4th, whilst becoming a bogie team for us.

Here's hoping FH quickly adapts tactics according to the opposition and can help us at least match Villa in the next 2 years.

UTA!

I hate Villa, but they're damned good under Emery. I preferred the Gerrard version. They just make total sense. There's a case to be made that they've got the two best out-and-out strikers in club football. I thought they might feel the loss of Luiz, but their CMs have stepped in. And then they've got those pacy, mobile wingers/midfielders that are great at running with the ball: Rogers, Ramsey. Pau Torres is one of the best ball-playing CBs in the PL, and Martinez is making a strong case as its best goalie.

But they have spent a lot of money I believe. Money spent wisely, but it's a lot.

I’m as impressed with their medical team as I am with their manager, how many of their best players get long term injuries?

If we signed Ollie Watkins he’d probably get a long term injury in his first game for us

I despise Villa btw so as impressive as their result was I am not congratulating them

Historic European win, don't see what's wrong with giving credit where it's due and applauding Villa (and betting large on them getting pummelled 4-0/4-1 in the return leg) :clap2:
A return leg in the new Champions League format?

Villa will just have to take their ultra time wasting tactics somewhere else rather than giving the Bayern Munich home fans the experience.

Very weird thread. They have essentially bought their way into that position, spent tonnes of money and only sold grealish for a while. Emery is a good manager, but I don't respect what villa are doing at all

Decent team which they should be for the money but I hate watching them. Horrible tactics full of cheating. Not for me. Disgusting manager who could incidentally do with a lesson in smiling as he seems to be stuck in a grimacing rictus.
They had luck - which is fair enough - but their inability to recognise it or acknowledge it is distinctly unedifying. A league cup win when they were in the Championship when we put out a ridiculously young and understrength team and they scraped a win - and they crowed about it like it was the biggest win in history.......................and the fact that if someone had bothered to switch on the goal-line technology they would likely have been relegated and subsequently been about two years of development behind where they are now.

Nothing wrong with having a bit of luck, or even a bit more luck than most - but at least appreciate it!
