Don't advertise that service on a postcard in the local shop.You don't need to be a plumber to be able to fit a toilet.
I've fitted numerous bathrooms, kitchens. Re-wired houses, built extensions, built oak barns, built patios, laid patio's built brick walls.
Also rebuilt car engines, jet engines.
Jobwise, aircraft engineer, publican, beer quality manager, antique dealer.
Should add recently I went on a course to learn French polishing, wow that's rewarding.

Thanks. The property is rented and the landlord is very good. He's away but has asked me to sort forthwith with the regular plumber and he'll reimburse. It's annoying as it's just making a racket every minute. I can turn the cold water off at the mains, but it's a pain having to turn it on again for stuff. There's a full bucket by the toilet ready now !
When I use the taps, hot or cold the toilet cistern seems to draw in more water. I was wanting to ask, and it's very kind of you to offer advice, does the raising of the bullcock mean water will not flow in full stop ? If so, that's fine as it would mean it's just the toilet out of action till it's fixed.

Is a French polisher someone who sees something or someone French and rubs it/them down with a duster?You don't need to be a plumber to be able to fit a toilet.

Yes as long as the cistern isn’t filling you have stopped the flow by tying up the ballvalve (fill valve) with string.

as you have pointed out the flexi hose goes on a journey first pain in the arse … ..

Rented property that was originally bodged and not been touched for years, landlord wants a cheap quick fix..
Im so busy i usually turn jobs like this away tbh.
Have a look online for an Impulse flush valve washer and try that first, alternatively get PILTDOWN round and keep us updated on how he gets on.
Edit - having actually read the thread if it's the float valve that is a simpler fix depending on if you can get to the other side of the flexi in the wall..

Those flexible hoses in walls are up near the top of my very long list of plumbing pet hates.You can give all the professional advice on here and someone with no knowledge will say do it this way it’s easy

Thing is most taps are supplied with them, I wonder how many are sitting hidden waiting to blow at any minute and ruin someone's life..
