[Albion] MOT question

My MOT is out of date by two days. I was on holiday and came back to realise this. Booked in for later this
week.

Anyway, when I started driving, I was always told that you had a week or so grace on the MOT, give or take.
Lots of new drivers have told me there's a zero tolerance policy now if you haven't got an MOT (3 pts
on your licence if you're stopped). Is this really true? Does anyone have any recent experience?

Don't think any technical aspect, but if you're driving to a MOT test facility, I reckon you'd be OK

Sitting on a bough of a tree a few yards off...
You cannot drive or park your vehicle on the road if the MOT has run out. You can be prosecuted if caught.
The only exceptions are to drive it:

  • to or from somewhere to be repaired
  • to a pre-arranged MOT test

You've probably invalidated your insurance as well.

Thanks for the reminder. I had to move my MOT test because I had Covid and couldn’t take it to Setyres. Not certain when it runs out but put the car on the drive, just in case.

So can you legally drive a car with valid insurance without a current MOT to a pre-arranged MOT test?

Although you are unlikely to get caught if you are not involved in an accident. I know of someone who inadvertently drove for six months without an MOT because they had the wrong renewal date in mind (it was along time ago).

Even if nothing happened to it, it's almost certainly a condition of your insurance that it has a valid MOT if used on a public road. So no MOT and no insurance, you're losing the car if stopped.

Can the DVLA issue a fine for example, if your car is caught on camera doing say 80mph on the M25 and
you are without an MOT? Would the speed people be obliged to tell DVLA? This hasn't happened, but it scares me
to think that nothing works in this country but ironically the only bit of fu**ing joined up technology
is a fine-based system for MOTs. Anyway no excuses I guess.

I was so busy last year I really just did forget for about 7 months drove in front of and behind plenty of coppers to in that time. Guess I was lucky.
