Just finished watching 'Oddity'
I wouldn't say it's frightening, but I'm a 57 year old man who is keeping the lights on all over the house tonight !
Brilliant...The directors other film 'Caveat" looks great too if IMDB anything to go by

Saw 'The Substance' yesterday and it makes Cronenberg's body horrors look like Andy Pandy the movie...
Bastard offspring of 'Society' and 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' hopefully will put anyone off botox or plastic surgery ( Mrs Stomper couldn't watch the more extreme bits )
Demi Moore looks great...Must be all the work she's had !

'Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice' isn't crap!
It crams too much in and could possibly benefit from losing at least 1 character/ sub plot.
I enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting to.
It is a bit of a mess.
But not crap.

Maverick is an awful and inaccurate film.
Turning at Mach 10, and ejecting without being liquified, radar lock to use guns, laser guided SAM sites being confused by flares, g-force increasing on a climb, using cruise missiles to take out a runway but leave the SAM sites intact. And I can only assume he won his P-51 in a raffle because he couldn't afford one on his salary.
It's a mess of a film.

Off to see a strange (self-constructed) double bill today... The Substance, preceded by A New Hope, which is flagged as being part of Cineworld's Star Wars Saturdays...yet it is Wednesday today!

Having come from a neighbouring screen watching Star Wars Ep 4: A New Hope (which was as good as ever, and took me back to being a 10 year old at the Odeon in Brighton to see the first screening of this film!), in the company of two others in the screening (neither with me, and one walking out two-thirds the way through the film bizarrely), I went into The Substance with a jaunty air without realising what a visceral experience it would be.
@The Lemming Stomper got it spot on - if you imagine some of the more extreme Cronenbergian excesses dialled up to eleven, that gives a good idea of the film. It was a very interesting premise, and very well done. Definitely not for the squeamish, and there's a lot of suspending logic/expectations (set in current times but the internet didn't seem to exist/be used, and 80s style fitness TV shows seemed to be the big thing) but definitely keeps you wondering how things turn out.
It did seem from after being virtually immobile due to age and infirmity, Moore's character then seemed remarkably fit, strong and spritely towards the latter part of the film, and the final act with the blood etc seemed just too over the top even for this film - especially with the audience sat watching, reminding me of The Producers and "Springtime for Hitler".
Like SWEp4ANH, my screening did have someone walk out (again, about two-thirds through) but more understandable in this case!

Imo, the only way to watch the original trilogy is the original Theatrical version (released only on the ltd ed DVD and in reduced aspect ratio) or Harmy's Despecialized Editions (download only). I don't suppose the version at the cinema you saw was the original theatrical cut? Lucas totally fecked them all up with his post release changes.@Uncle Spielberg, it IS insane!

No, it was the "Special" edition sadly. Complete with clunk of the stormtrooper's helmet on the opening door.

Just watched Trap the latest from M Night Shymalian. Unfortunately continued the downward trajectory his films have taken for a while now. Basically seems to just be a vehicle for his daughters singing career as about a third of the film seems to be her in concert.
No tension, no logic or explanation of killers motives Josh Hartnett is terrible in the lead.
Avoid. 3/10

Hoping to.go.to see Lee tomorrow. MrsBC has been a big fan of the photographer for decades and I've bought her coffee table books and we've been to see the exhibitions at Petworth and Brighton Museum.
It's had rave reviews but anyone on here seen it?

If you hope you might like 'Twisters' you probably will. I did and was just about satisfied. I don't regret watching it and might watch it again.

I enjoyed it, heard it was shit and avoided reviews etc.
Probably was a little over packed with sub plots but an enjoyable romp for me.
Big fan of Tim Burton though so not terribly surprised I liked it.

The Mrs generally moans at me for discounting films after reading some reviews.
Didn't bother with reviews ahead of tonight as the 1st Joker film was excellent.
Big mistake. What a contrast to the first film and what a load of self indulgent drivel with the 'bonus' of it being a musical!
A very hard and slow watch. A small number of people walked out during but I'd paid my money so deserved to suffer!

Everyone I know who has seen the new Joker film said it’s absolute crap.

We went to see LEE yesterday afternoon. Thought it was excellent. You can see why they reckon Kate Winslet could be in line for an Oscar.
Very powerful performance from her in so many different sections, in different times, within the film.
Best film I've seen this year 8/10

Saw 'The Substance' recently. Wow. Not sure what else to say but that. I left the cinema a little shocked and confused at what i'd just seen. It is probably the most insane, and gruesome film i've ever seen. Just mental. The trailer doesn't even begin to hint at how crazy it gets. It's certainly an experience to see it in the cinema. Storyline wise, the first 90 minutes is decent, and its not to say that the last 45 minutes isn't...but the final act seems to be a director going ''how f***ing nuts can we make this!?!!''
