Chatting to a few on way out. Happy with point - yeh we only ourselves to blame as didn’t score etc - all fine.

Talked about the banner incident and they said yeh it was weird…

30 something year old Ips fan pipes up ‘I tell you what was weird - that song you sang at the start’

Me, confused ‘what you on about?’

Him ‘that song about ALL being gay and that proper weird’ (dead strait annoyed him).

When I laughed at him and explained it was a world war 1 song of our county and others laughed at him the response was:

‘Why sing a war song that was ages ago’.

Me - ‘it’s one of the best songs in football as it means some thing to our county - maybe educate yourself’

I think I met the most dense away fan yet this season no? And homophobic of course?

in 1907 it wasn't implied to be a song containing homosexual reference, Merely to be jolly.
Unfortunetly the song hasn't aged well.
It hasn’t aged well for anyone with the mentality of a sniggering 7 year old. I don’t think many people have a problem appreciating that there is a different but still entirely legitimate definition of the word ‘gay’. Apart from some Ipswich fans apparently.

He GENUINELY didn’t get it or realise - even when I referenced it. Don’t worry I did call him a retard - my bad. Maybe a line about fingering his sister - my bad again.

Deepest, darkest Sussex
Seemed to be a fairly high percentage of knobheads in their support today, a few insisted on trying to set to in the train queue

About 5-6 years ago, probably more, thinking about it, Ipswich away. An Ipswich fan and his 10 year old son kicked out of the stadium for homophobic abuse. Why the f*** would he think it is OK for his son to do homophobic gestures. Weired tractor boys...

Seems to be a premier league effect. Got a lot of time for Ipswich and their fans, pre-frame all the ones I spoke to were great. But had the same experience as others after.

Seems to be a much higher percentage of dickheads after they get into the premier league. Not saying they don’t exist in lower tiers but they certainly show themselves more in the prem.

A pedant says it was written in 1907, long before the First World War. It was adopted by the Sussex Regiment later.
Gay means happy.
