I like Ayari and think he could become a good player, but the honeymoon factor here is very strong: imo, Ayari playing a lot of PL football is a real weakness and Wieffer/Baleba/Milner/O'Reily/Hinshelwood (and Gilmour for that matter) are all better than him by a fair margin. I'm hoping to be proved wrong and that he's super good etc. like every new/fresh player always is until they're not.

Really hope Wieffer & some left back are back after the international break. Baleba and Ayari worked really hard but none of them are able to be the "engine" on PL level. Hinshelwood or Wieffer needs to be there or contol/chance creation is going to be a problem every game.

Rated Ayari's performances in pre-season and his cameo at Everton, hope he sticks around instead of going out on loan but expect he won't given all the incomings.

Notable that despite coming on in the 89th minute Ayari accumulated an xG of 0.43, second only to Mitoma (0.97, 89 minutes played) and ahead of Welbeck (0.20, 90 minutes of normal time played).

None of this detracts from how well he's seized his opportunity. I haven't had the highest of hopes for him, but he's been very good in pre-season and the energy and intensity he's provided from the bench this season has been hugely impressive. He made a couple of errors yesterday but, for the most part, was highly competent and in no way overawed by the occasion. His pressing and intensity was again very good, and he won the ball back a good number of times.

We were better with him on the pitch yesterday. They dominated for long period of that opening 20 mins. Once he settled we controlled possession a lot better and the game was pretty even at the time Arsenal scored. This all up against a 3 very good midfielders from Arsenal.
The red card had a massive affect on the game obviously.

Always hard to judge players on loan. The championship is a tough league and he didn’t get a lot of game time but Blackburn struggled, but with good players round he may well flourish.

At the moment he’s likely still 6th choice but he’s making an impression which is all we can ask with the time he’s getting.
His pass to Andringa v Utd for the winner was executed perfectly for example. Without the pass at the pace and quickness Andringa doesn’t have the time to pick out Pedro.

Two points.

One is that Ayari is more likely to score a goal than WBG. That’s not to say he’s a better player. Simply that Gilmour for all his attributes is demonstrably poor in front of goal while Ayari at Everton and yesterday showed that he can hit the target at least.
It’s way too early to compare wider aspects of their game other than to say they are very different players.

The second is that I’m pretty sure that with everyone fit Ayari is unlikely to be a starter most of the time. That would also have been true of Gilmour had he stayed.
I very much suspect that was a large part of his wanting away.

In fact, I'd have a fiver on him saying, in a sort of Tunisian-Moroccan-Swedish accent, something like: "I should score. If I see that he's on the left side, I'll just put it on the right. But in those moments everything goes so quickly and I thought he was running to the first post, so I thought I would put it on the second."
