Still feel myself he’s a little under the radar (which isn’t a bad thing!)
Personally wouldn’t swap him for any other PL striker (with the exception of Haaland & Salah (if you catergorise Mo as an out and out striker)
JP is box office, skilful, great finisher and a real personality. Love him. ❤️

Last season his goal tally was inflated by his pens.
Now his dribbling, finishing and positioning are improving game by game.
He will end up far superior to the player you see today.

It's all about his finishing for me. If that continues to improve he'll move to the top of the charts and yes next summer we'll be unable to keep him. That will be fair enough. it's the way it works in today's football world. It looks like we are already seriously looking for his replacement.

It irritates me when a striker scores goals and someone says oh, but it includes penalties. This isn’t personal DJ NOBO because many people do it.

Goals are goals regardless of how they go in, from the spot or a wicked deflection off a defender’s bum.

I'm on the 'but it includes penalties' side. It's harder to score from open play than it is from a penalty. It's really good to have someone capable of putting penalties away, but comparing overall scores between someone who does take them, and someone who doesn't, is misleading.

Agree completely.

However, I think he would already have been within the radar of most scouts in the EPL as he played for Watford in the Championship for 2 ½ years and had a rep for a being a skilled pen taker as well as having great attacking instincts but that’s why we broke our transfer record at the time by paying £30M for him. He developed a lot last season scoring more goals in open play and his fee (of at least £100M) will reflect that if we sell him on.

Arsenal were reportedly interested at the beginning of the window but maybe after yesterday, that wouldn’t go down well with the Arselickers  .

Interesting to cf Welbeck with Pedro (notwithstanding difference in roles) - with Minteh and Mitoma behind them, both will score a lot of goals this season (maybe Welbeck has a higher xGI?) but on the transfer market, Pedro is far more valuable - much younger, versatile (can play a 9, 10 and inverted LW) and of course, a very reliable pen taker.

Next to Mitoma, he’d probably be our most expensive player on the transfer market if anyone came knocking.

This.

Something like 75-80% of penalties are scored, so being the designated penalty taker will skew scoring stats over someone that doesn't have a 75% chance of a goal handed to them on a plate every 8-10 games.

That's not to say it doesn't take balls and technique to take and score a penalty, but when comparing a penalty taker and a non-penalty taker's stats, it should be taken into account.

You still need to score them it’s never a guarantee he just happens to be exceptionally good at taking them.
