[Technology] Help to setup VNC for personal use

I used to use some software in a previous job well over a decade ago so I assume things have moved on in that time?

Presumably I can ask him to run the VNC server only when I need access as I'm not looking to snoop etc.

Consider installing linux on his PC (Mint is very windows-like).
You can still remote in but if he's a bit vulnerable and gets taken in by a scammer their modus operandi is 99% targetted at windows users and malware is much less likely.
