For me personally, it’s zero to do with her being a woman, 100% about tasteless comments from someone involved in football who knows what injuries can do to players. Would she be so free and easy with her emojis if it was her teammate at the receiving end?

I've never met any of their supporters, and they can no more choose their owners than any club can.
They just weren't on my radar as a club to "hate". Too low down for me to be bothered with, I don't look out for their results. But when they made the playoffs, I watched with mild interest and found myself wanting them to win just as a fellow Sussex club. I did the same with Worthings playoff final, against whoever it was.
Now though, Crawley can go f*ck themselves. I'll be watching in the hope they get stuffed every week, and am keenly awaiting a nasty injury for that THROBBER who has put O'Riley out for god knows how long.

I still don’t understand where her euphoria came from to see a major talent like Matt O’Riley crippled right at the start of his debut. This didn’t come from a thuggish Crawley fan (and they have plenty of those). It came from another young footballer presumably dreaming of making it big, just like O'Riley is, or was. Those cackling emojis, the joyful singing. I just don’t understand where it came from, and I’d feel the same perplexity if it was a male footballer expressing the same delight about another footballer. Nothing misogynistic about this.
I think the reason people were focusing on her was due to her links with Crawley. As you say, fans say worse every day, she isn't a fan, she is or was a coach at Crawley celebrating one of her team's players deliberately injuring another professional footballer.

Oh dear.. so what happened last night ?
1) It wasn't a dirty match. Apart from a tackle earlier on which should have been a sending off and sadly had repercussions. Ironically, the actual sending off wasn't that bad. It did get a little physical at times from both sides
2) Ref did let a lot go, and was poor, in a kind of consistent way
3) Crawley hasn't suddenly become a rubbish town full of trash and just about every evil on the planet. Although it remains an example of dull 60s town planning. Their supporters haven't suddenly become scum, although I've only met two in my life.
4) No-one is trying to start a rivalry. Crawley are little more than a little cousin you only see at marriages and funerals and forget their name most of the time.
5) A young woman has created a dumb Tweet and deleted it. Maybe stay off the White Lightning in future. Still, always a relief the internet wasn't around when we we young.

Notwithstanding the actual tackle on MOR by Williams, the post in question by that young lady is ill advised at best. It isnt victimising her by being upset by it and should rightly be reported.
as for Crawley fans - this was their biggest game in years. It wasnt even our biggest game this week. Thuggery aside, I was impressed at how they took advantage of our lack of cohesion throughout the game. I think 4 mil does flatter us somewhat, but the game is about taking chances - we took ours, they didnt take theirs.
I don't wish them well, nor do I wish them ill. As arrogant as it may sound, they are just another team that we had to beat and we move on, as they will.

After Williams thuggish attack on O'Riley it clearly goes against the grain to say anything positive about Crawley.
However, I thought they played some decent football for a League One side. And on another day they might have scored 3 or 4 goals. Some of their passing and movement was very decent for a side built on a low budget and largely assembled during the summer break.
It's a great shame the disgusting tackle is what their performance will be remembered by.

I suspect that there are Crawley fans who would love this to escalate into some enduring rivalry with Brighton. So my instinct is to ignore them, forget about last night and move on.
It was obvious that their tactics would be to be as physical as possible against a Premier League opponent, break up play by fair means or foul, and risk cards in the process.
By and large the plan was working for large periods of the game but inevitably some of their players overstepped the mark.
Their support was good at times, as it should be in a game like this, but the chants were pretty unoriginal and half their fans disappeared after the third goal went in, and many more before then. Not as impressive as Grimsby or Wrexham.
Always been ambivalent about Crawley and intend to stay that way.

But that's not what happened. There's a difference between being physical and putting yourself about, and what Williams did.

In the 90s, Crawley had the lowest unemployment rate in the country. I'm guessing Gatwick would have been a reason and the huge industrial estate. I worked there for a while and knew folk from there. Never had an opinion on the place either way. Just another new town really. Not very engaging, but quite well facilitated. Tilgate Park was always a good visit. Certainly not a 'horrible place'. Nice areas, not so nice areas. Could be anywhere really.

I can confirm it was a total pit in the 80's too. Its only saving grace was plenty of work on the back of Manor Royal and Gatwick.

I remember calls to never play Crawley again after the thuggery in the 'friendly' at the start of Hyypia's brief era.
The thuggery seems institutional at Crawley. I think they have a massive problem with our success for some reason, whereas we didn't care about them.
