Not sure why sarcasm is necessary. I was simply expressing a view, not suggesting at all that I have any specific knowledge.

FWIW, I don't believe at all that Russia are going to give up this conflict for economic reasons. The article I was replying to highlighted Gazprom $80bn of debt and I am not sure why it's particularly relevant, I thought I might get an educated answer.

As for the pipeline, again I don't know but I would be surprised if it were critical to the outcome of the conflict.

Anyway I won't trespass on your thread again
Ok. You say you were simply expressing a view, but that you have no specific knowledge. That's fine. It happens a lot on here, and I'm as guilty as anyone.

Same question as above then. What - exactly - is your view based on, if it isn't based on any specific knowledge?

I'm no export on macro economics but who are Gazprom $82BN in debt to?

Whilst I can see how the Russian economy is struggling I thought their oil/gas exports had been switched from the West to India/China and a bunch of other rogue like states, albeit at lower cost. Russia itself would have had tremendous reserves before 2022 and therefore I suspect they can bail out Gazprom ad infinitum?

Hopefully my thinking is way off
Russia cant export much oil and gas without a pipeline, only so much you can do with ships, which has been greatly restricted as Western shipping companies not touching them. pipelines to China are a big deal for their future. they are also burning through reserves at a ferocious rate, propping up the economy while so much trade is restricted. Gazprom is just one slice of their problems brewing.

I urge you all to please go onto the BBC news site and read 'The lonely death of a jailed Russian pianist who opposed war'.
It makes such harrowing reading. It's about Pavel Kushnir. I've never previously heard of him. Just one of thousands upon thousands of lives destroyed by Mr Genocide's iron grip on power.

What utter scum those russian authorities are. I don't even like using the word authority here, because it
is suggests they have an idea about what they doing.

Very sad indeed. I'm sure there'll be others like him that we haven't heard about yet ☹️

I am an avid reader of this thread as I am learning and understanding far more about the conflict on nsc than I am from the likes of the BBC and sky, whose coverage is sketchy to say the least.
Thank you to the main contributors for your insights, I suspect I am not alone in my appreciation of your efforts
If you want a regular, reliable update on the war, the podcast Ukraine The Latest from the team at the Telegraph is a must, broadcast every day during the week.

You know how this war throws up strange things you didn't see coming?

How about Lukaschenko offering Ukraine his congratulations on independence day? While, at the same time, assembling (or allowing Russia to assemble) over 1000 PMC Wagner troops on the Belarus/Ukraine border?

Lukashenko is nothing more than Putin’s puppet. Not sure how popular he is with the Belarus public but he’ll probably do Putin’s bidding regardless

Seems utterly ridiculous that Ukraine aren't allowed to target these sites but instead have to rely on using missiles to shot them down. Missiles we don't give them enough of plus the damage from debris when they do shot down.
