Taking the comparison a little further than I originally intended, they might if it was one of their's and they'd willfully ignored the possibility of it sinking prior to assuring everybody that it was fine.

He’s done nothing more than take all the info from other journos and made a judgement that this is >90% likely to happen. NSC called this before he did he here-we-go tweet.
